Default 17hmr VS 22 wmr

I have a Ruger 17 and the penetration was 'bad'...
Do I buy a Shillen Bbl. for $233 or just hope that better bullets will be made in the future?

I'd like to see Nosler make a lead free HP.

The 17hmr was not built to penetrate deep it is a small game round made to hit them hard and fast and a lot of the time well small game like sage rats just go Pop. rp

They do make solids for the 17. Check cheaper than dirt

Kinda funny to see someone going the other direction. Most people like me went from the 22 mag to a 17. I still have 2 @ 22 mags (1 rifle & 1 very small pistol) though...the energy really is not there with the 17 but it does have a better trajectory. The 17 is better up to rabbit size game (my opinion), but the 22 mag is likely better for bigger stuff as you can go as heavy as 50 grains in bullet size.

I used to think (pre 17) that the 22 mag was the perfect sage rat gun for me as the 223 was more expensive to shoot and the 22 lr just didn't have enough range.

Sounds like you want the 20 grain solid points for the 17.
