Results: Cast'n Blast Fri-Sun 4/11-13 (PICS INCLUDED)
Departing PDX late tonight and returning late Sunday. Two & half days of Steelhead action and an afternoon of squirrels. 800mile round trip to NE Oregon.
Looking for two guys to share fuel. I have a big wall tent and necessary camp gear. Just need a rider or two who'd love get in some of the hottest hatchery steelhead action recently seen in some of God's purtiest part of NE Oregon. Focus of course is fish, but I plan to pull off the river Sunday and head for the squirrel fields before heading back home.
PM or better yet page me at 503-204-7524

Sounds like a cool trip Hunt'nFish! It's youth turkey hunting weekend though and the kids are chomping at the bit after last weekend's turkey hunting clinic. I hope they tag out early so I can see if there any salmon in the Umpqua before we head home from down south

WOW, Mike . . . If I had had some more notice, I would have made a way for this to work. I sure hope someone turned-up to take advantage of this great opportunity and avoud you having to make such a long trip alone. Have a great trip. Don

Sorry Don. Spur of the moment trip. Nope, just me and the dog.
Slideshow: 2008 Hunt'nFish Cast'nBlast
It was a great weekend. Awesome weather, sunburns, plenty of cold beer, dutch oven meals, a few steelhead and a few squirrels. Over all a good weekend, but do kinda feel jipped on the fishing. My brother got their a day before me and had 17 in a evening & morning bite. I fished all morning up river and fished my way down to camp and....nothing. Seems nobody was catching any up river but they slayed them down below. STORY OF MY LIFE....shoulda been here Yesterday.
Fish #1 Fish 2 Fish 3
Anyway all the warm weather thursday & friday brought up the river a little and the bite slowed a fair bit each day, until sunday it was basically blown out. Did manage 3 fish, so I wasn't totally screwed. Out fished dad and his buddy Saturday, so that made me feel good. Dad's a hell of a fisherman. If I'd only been there a couple days earlier.
Pulled off the river late Sunday morning and headed for the squirrel fields.
(see slide show for more pics)
Overcast and strong wind. Only a few squirrels running around with very little fresh mound diggings. Still early, should be getting good from here on out until the grass gets too high. Made some good shots and shot 4-5 10rd clips and popped 20-30 in a couple hours. Wind was a problem otherwise I think more would've been out and my hit rate would'a been better. But hey, when your fudging 3-4" into the wind, what do you expect?!
So I pulled off the fields & went by Mom's and we went to dinner.
Pulled into PDX a little after 3am Sun.....yawn, yawn.

Good stuff Mike. Thought about driving down to try and find ya' but the rat hunting was too good to break away from!
So, when are you moving back?

Re: Results: Cast'n Blast Fri-Sun 4/11-13
Well you made the right choice.
I'm sure Saturday & Sunday morning there was no wind and they were thick as ticks on a deer's belly.
But it sure was purty down on the river. Deer, Elk, Bighorns, Bear...I'm not complaining.
When my 401K hits 2Mill I'll be headed home. Still a few years away....maybe by 50.

Wow the river looks really nice, and those fish look nice too! Congrats! Can't wait for an August trip to Cow Crick. Blackberries, swimming, and SM bass.
Looks like the weather cooperated with you.
