Default Clack river level?

I will be in Portland this weekend, staying real close to the Clack and want to bring my driftboat and give it a try. What are the optimum levels for this river? Also, what are the extremes (high and low) that it will still be fishable at? Forecast is for lots of rain but the freezing level is supposed to be fairly low, so should be fishable. Thanks for the help. Also, any suggestions on which drift to try (where have the fish been caught lately)?

I have fished the Clack for 25 years, my favorite river height for Winter Steelhead, is from 13.2' to 13.8'. It fishes so good at that height, but it can stay fishable w/ low freezing level up to 14.5 on a rare day. Which stretch do you plan on fishing?? I've heard of some reports on the Barton to Carver stretch, Good Luck!!

Thanks for the help guys! I don't know what section I will be floating, still just hoping that the river stays fishable. Living in Bend, it seems every time I get to the valley, the rivers are in terrible shape. Hope it pans out this weekend. Also forgot to ask for shuttle recommendations and phone numbers. Any help would be appreciated. I'll be stoping by fisherman's in OC so maybe they'll have some ideas as well. Thanks again.

I agree with C&E on Carver to Riverside...but if you're in a driftboat, you'll be working if the river's above about 13.2. For your info...I think the guage readings are goofy right now on the Clack....they're saying August-like levels...but I know it's higher than what the guage readings are at this time.

If the water's green with limited visibilty...flo red wiggle warts are producing in the slower water.

I'd reccommend scoping the water for level and color before you plan on hitting it.

Regardless....best of luck to you!!

Mark

Darn rain anyway. Was gonna fish today and tomorrow, but the river was out. Sometimes I can sneak up to Mckiver and find some cleaner water up there, but it was an absolute mess up there too. Lots of snags/trees floating. BEWARE Maybe tomorrow if the freezing level stays down.
