I was wondering is can osp nail guys for blatantly trying to snag with out actually catching them in the act. Or them retaining a fish. I saw a guy at the salmon fishing with large a large slinky, about 18 in of leader and then a # 6 blue fox.. and just letting it sit. He pulled the same s**t as a lot of the guys down there setting the hook on any line touch . I watched him snag three in about an hour.. He didn't keep them, but he rodeoed the hell out of those fish . And I am definately glad about the railroad tressel closing as well.

The OSP can issue tickets if they deem that an SOB is attempting to snag. Unfortunately it is hard to prove in court.

its hard to prove because the way its listed in the regs, the only way i see to bust them is if they keep the fish that is not hooked in the mouth, don't get me wrong i do not support snagging in any way

This is the modern era, video tape them from a good location that will not be too revealing. Video evidence is nearly impossible to defeat. If you're worried about getting caught and someone not being happy about, pack a side arm. I don't think it would take more than once or twice to reduce the number of snaggers by a decent percentage. In the end it would mean more fish for people who follow regs.

Default Any Change in snagging rules

I usually post ont the hunting page, But I would like some feedback on this subject. I had the blatant displeasure of fishing at the railroad tressel at big creek this year. We missed our boat for going out to slay some silvers and ended up looking for a place to fish. And unfortunately that is whare we ended up at. I was appalled to say the least at the actions of our fellow fisherman. I caught two fair hooked chinook on shrimp oil and plastic worms there, but i saw 50+ that were snagged, on purpose. The worst part about that was that about half were kept. It wasn't just limited to there though I've seen it at the salmon, Guys gigging using anchored corkies and striking at any line brush, or nudge. On the naselle in wa. you have to use moving rigs now. I was wondering if there was anyway for these kind of rules to be encouraged in oregon. I don't mean to offend anyone, but winching in a big fally by the tail can't possibly improve its survival rate. It seems that if you try to call someone on this kind behavior, you are treading on very thin ice. (definately discouraging me from trying to police our own)

Call the Tips hotline and turn them in. When I called in some snaggers on eagle creek earlier this year an officer was dispatched to check things out.

outlaw, if you despise snaggers as much as i do you should invest in a cell phone. Simply go to your rig, drive off a little ways and call OSP.
Then you set back and watch the fun. Befor to long you will have lots of room to fish and the rotten snaggers wil be gone. It is not safe to confront anyone you dont know and usually all you get is a bunch of mouth and they keep right on, the above method is safe, gets results and in most cases OSP will actually see the snagging going on and you dont even have to reveal who you are. Best to tell OSP that you dont want anyone to know who the caller is. Cagey.
