If I lived in Tacoma I would wait. There's fish around and a few being picked up here and there from what I'm hearing, but nothin' I would drive from Tacoma for.

Wow, april seems along time to wait, already getting antsy now. Might have to give it ago in a few weeks then come back when the run is in thick. Thanx for the welcomes.

I would be somewheres around Cathlamet long before April..... Then maybe up to WIllow Grove.....then Longview.....and so on. You should be able to make the Dike Rd. launch on the Cowlitz easily in 2 hours....not all that bad....one fish takes away the pain.

Shoot, Tacoma is nothing. I wave at the tacoma dome 45 minutes before I get home.

Go to the Kalama area. It's not too far, good ramp, and plenty of area to fish. Wait at least two weeks before you get too eager.

Default Springers

I have been lurking for awhile and am really interested in getting into some springers. The thing is driving from tacoma is quite a drive. I know it is still kinda early, and people are catching them. Is it advisable to make a trip down there now or would you some of you wait for a few more weeks. Getting anxious to get into some springers.

FDB-

If I lived in Tacoma I would move to where the Springers are!

All kidding aside I think waiting awhile is good info.
Just getting started down here. Check river conditions before making the drive. If the rivers are blown your chances decrease

I would second the opinion that its not that bad of a drive.

You can launch at Kalama (around exit 32) or out of Rainier on the Oregon side by crossing the Longview bridge (exit 42)and heading south about 1 mile.

While I haven't fished it, I would also consider Cathlamet as I have heard some good things from that fishery.

Keep an eye right here on Ifish starting in about 2-3 weeks and you will see the reports become more consistent. When multiple fish days become the norm (for those who know what they are doing), it's time to be on the water.

Last year (about half as big of a run compared to this year), mid March was getting really interesting. I am hoping this year is more like 2001.

I know just getting really antsy, seeing that our fisheries somewhat local are slowly dwindling (which means the wife will have me busy with house chores (cleaning gutters, painting, etc.) Is there anyone on here from tacoma that will be making the trip in weeks to come?
