Re: OSU has a
My major is not solid as of this moment. Right now I plan to take classes to aim towards a Computer Science-related major, which could be either engineering or programming, not sure yet - but I am also interested in their Fisheries and Wildlife program. The F & W program sent me a letter today explaining their program, along with a disc I have yet to check out. But those are the two things I am thinking.
Thanks for the Kudos!

Re: OSU has a
Breaking news......
I just heard that the library on the OSU campus just burned down. The library was a total loss. Both books where destroyed and the really sad news is that one hadn't even been colored in yet....
GO DUCKS!!!!

First, congrats on moving on into higher education.....you'll never regret it!!!!
Now, I have to ask. Why did you choose Oregon State, especially if you're looking at a Computer Science major? I have to tell ya, there's better CS engineering/programming schools in this state.
Certainly their F&W program is top-notch, well known throughout the west!!
Hmmmm.....a biologist with an in-depth computer programming background? That could be a really interesting mix!!

Re: OSU has a
Congrat! It's a great school. My wife just graduated last Summer. I know folks in both the engineering and F&W fields, all graduates of OSU. Take advantage of their Dual Enrollment Program and Attend the club meetings, they will give you a great insight to the programs you are thinking on.

Computer Programming, probably. Who has a better Computer Engineering program?
The Electrical Engineering program is also top notch. Lots of high paying jobs.
The F&W program is excellent, however, the pay doesn't compare to computer or electrical engineering

Go with the computer science degree. The fish and wildlife degree that I received their a few years ago was a lot of fun but the job market is horrible if you are unable to move around every few months for the first 5-8 years in order to get a permanent job. I would definately join the f&W club though it is a lot of fun and you meet some great people with common interests.

Again everyone (even the UO fans!) Thanks for your kudos and support.
Just so you know... My generation is the first of my family to go to college, and I have two sisters who are U of O (One graduated June '06, and the other will be graduating in 2011).
deerbeware, I have heard a very same tale from another friendly Ifisher. I really think that I want to go into Computer Science anyways... but yeah I will probably join any clubs or stuff like that to keep myself informed and see whats going on in their program.
And the reason why I want to go to OSU is because I have a lot of friends (one that I have known since kindergarten) who are going to be attending OSU. I was not worried about wanting to 'attend the better computer college in the state' or whatever because one, I'd rather work on the hardware side than the software side, and second, being 75 miles away from Portland isn't bad (where I live now). And if I really wanted to go to a 'better college' I would have applied for one out of state.
I just applied to OSU, they gave me an offer I am willing to accept, and voila!
PSU gave me an offer in January that was around $17K, but OSU was my main choice.
I am a graduating senior at Lincoln HS, and will be taking IB tests in May where I can qualify for IB Certificates that are worth college credit. I am testing in IB Spanish, IB English, IB Biology, and IB Math Studies (Statistics).
Thanks to all who have posted!
