Default Netarts Marine reserve presentation?

Heard a rumour that the marine reserve proponents are having a presentation in Netarts today.

Anyone hear about this?

Last weekend when I was launching at Netarts for the SOLV beach cleanup, a guy stopped to check out my dory. He told me there was a MR meeting on Thursday (yesterday). Unfortunately I was unable to attend.

Question Re: Netarts Marine reserve presentation?

I wonder if it was just a 'Town Meeting' or what? I live only 15 miles from there and never heard a thing about it? Dang!

Might not have been a public presentation. I can find nothing about it on the internet.

I asked this last night on another thread. I think it was part of the Community club monthly meeting. I will be down there tomorrow so I'll check with my neighbor as he is pretty active there. It could have gone either way, several folks down there are fairly active with the hatchery and ODFW...

My concern is that this is exactly how they are going to get their support, local meetings with onesided presentations. I didn't get the call until 5:30 and I was stuck working late. My fault, I should have posted immediately...

FYI.
Reserve proponents are doing exactly what you say. This is a political campaign with opposing philosophies. They are doing what a candidate would do. They are trying to build a base of support for their agenda. First it was decided that the best representatives for them would be members from the groups who are opposing them. In their "reporter resource" list there are many community perspectives from individuals listed. Money is being paid by Pew Charitable Trusts to these individuals to sell marine reserves to the public. On the list is Bob Rees (recreational fishing perspective) and Jim Carlson (commercial fishing perspective). These two were not chosen by fishery sector stakeholders. They were chosen due to their willingness to accept compensation to further an agenda. They and others have been and will be doing this frequently. They are targeting "progressives" and others who are not well informed and or have no economic stake with regard to marine resource harvest.

We are the financial underdog in this campaign. We are not, however, the political underdog. we must defend our political advantage. The majority of coastal public opinion is on our side. Going to these meetings and countering what the marine reserve peddlers are presenting is OK to do. A higher priority would be to write to newspapers laying out your positions and rationale as ODIN and Fishwhenican have done. Many more people will read the newspaper than will attend these meetings. Send an op-ed piece or letter to the editor. If the paper doesn't run it send it again and again. Make the paper want to print it if for no other reason than to get rid of you. Persistence usually rises above all else including money. You should communicate with your state legislator with the same writings. The legislature is the key to this whole issue.

If this isn't done by sufficient numbers it will be much more difficult to fend off this special interest takeover of parts of your fishing grounds.

Hey Black Magic, (or any other Ifisher's) if you happen to catch wind of any of the 'stealth' Marine Reserves meetings that are going to be held in Tillamook or North Lincoln County, could you post. I'm on the Board of Directors for the Pacific City Dorymens Association, and we want our voice heard at these meetings. Thank You.
