Default Duck/Goose Calling Contests workshop (UPDATED)

With all of the interest that has been generated by both Ifish and Duckhunter.net I think the best thing to do would be to have a contest calling/meat calling get together each month until the the Oregon Waterfowl Festival August 16-17.

This will be a great way for everyone who is interested in contest calling and meat calling to get together and discuss calling tactics, chosing the right call and preparing for contests. Contest calling is a lot of fun and a great way to meet fellow duck and goose hunters who share the same passion of calling.

I am talking to Sportsmans Warehouse in Salem and trying to Organize meeting times in May, June, July and August. This should give everyone a chance to work on their calling and routines and meet on a monthly basis to discuss the ins out outs of duck and goose calling.

How does 7:00 work for a time??

Please let me know if this sounds like something you would attend and tell your firends. Also, bring the kids if they are interested. The kids are the contest callers of tomorrow and it is very imoportant to get them excited early and show them how fun it can be.

We can do it at the Portland Sportsmans if that would work better for everyone??? We have had a lot of interest on the other thread, does everyone still want to do this??

The Portland store would be good for me, especially a lateweek/weekend night if possible. It would also be a good time to give you something in exchange for another Eric .

Me and the kid will be there. I'll post this on a few other spots and we'll see how many we have. Should we get a sign up going so we know about how many to expect?

I wouldnt be able to make it to sportsmans in Portland.
Salem would work better for me. I have baseball until around 6:30 everyday and its just a hop skip and a jump away to get to salem. Whatever the decision this is gonna be great!
I think we should get a sign up thread going as well.
Thanks.

With all the interest, I'd say a couple locations--a Salem location and a Portland location. One possibility would be to rent a school gym once a month. The Linnton community center is another possibility--they rent their gym for $25. If everyone who showed up chipped in $1-5 bucks, you'd have it covered. Other benefits of holding this at a couple different locations is you get more people involved (where commuting is an issue), plus it provides managable groups for feedback, etc. --Brian

Great idea! Perhaps take it to the next level? It there is enough interest from "mentors" who will be giving these clinics, a few locations might be really good. Contest means competition. Perhaps we have some light spirited team vs. team i.e Salem vs. Portland team(s) ect. The "teams" meet locally and as often as they like and then in early August before the OWF together to compete in a mini just for fun competition?

Just a thought.

I dont think I would want to be blowing in a school gym. The acoustics usually arent the best in those things. Correct me if I am wrong Eric?

If the weather is nice, we could use the parking lot at one of the refuges. I spend quite a bit of time out at baskett slough, and I don't bother anyone but the pintails (guess I need a new whistle). Just an idea.

What about someplace like Cascade Gateway park, or EE Wilson?

Time to bump this to the top!

I know a few kids that are interested depending where/when the meeting(s) are set. Weeknights / East Portland / Milwaukie / maybe as far south as Wilsonville area works.

Currently, I'm working on the details. I'm going to put it together at a location closer to Portland. I'll try to get an update for everyone today.
