Default Lowrance vs. Raytheon

I'm looking at buying a Raytheon L750 with the side looker option, but I'm curious about it only having 500 watts of power. The Lowrance X85 that I have now says it has 3000 watts peak-to-peak. What is difference in the wattage? Does it just mean the amount of power it has to get down to the bottom?
I rarely fish in more than 200' of water (Bouy 1), so do I really need 3000 watts?
Anybody have one of these Raytheon units that could give some good feedback?

The raytheon is rating its fishfinder with the RMS scale. (root, mean, square) its equivalent in peak to peak is 4000 watts. So not to worry. I've had 2 raytheons, one had a connector problem that the factory repaired free after almost 2 years of use. I also have a Lowrance, both are good units IMHO.

I had a Lawrence and didn't care for it. A buddy of mine has the Raytheon and it has been excellent. He runs in the ocean and fresh water. It has plenty of power for anything you would want to use it for. He's had it for 3 years and no problems.
Have you ever looked at Bottom Line Tournament Master? Not that you may need it, but mine has 650 RMS and 5200 watts peak and a large screen with side finder and what I like most a large screen that can display three seprate screens. You can bottom track, run a flasher and chart plotter all at one time.

If it was me and I was choosing between the Lawrence and the Raytheon I'd go for the Raytheon. Just my .02

I own a Raytheon L750. It is by far the best unit I have ever owned. I have had several others including the X-85, Ultra ll, and the LMS 350A by Lowrance. The L750 is much more dependable and has more features than the x-85 and is more user friendly. I know that it shows sturgeon right on the bottom and several times last fall while trolling with downriggers I have marked fish at bait depth and within seconds have had strikes. I am convinced that the Raytheon L750 is dependable and trustworthy. Side scanner worked great in the rivers this fall. Picks up silvers hanging off brush piles. Almost hooks them for you!

It's funny the different experiences people have with the same product. I had a Ratheon L750 and hated it from day one. I basically got it because it matched my Ratheon SL72 radar(which I love). Finally, the L750 went T.U. and I replaced it with a color Furuno FCV600L. Not much more $$ and it shows EVERYTHING in great detail - nice bright color...
