Mann Lake
When does it open up from snow usually and has anyone seen the water level?

Last weekend the lake was down 4-5 feet from two years ago (didn't go last spring). Fishing was much slower than previous trips. The view is still nice, the wind still blows. Chick might be a better option.

Re: Mann Lake
Anyone fished Mann lately.
I can't for the life of me talk one buddy into going to Diamond Lake rather than Mann. I'm all for going to Mann if it is worth the 8 hour drive!

I think you're kind of damed if you do, damed if you don't. Mann is full of goldfish and is likely going to be treated with rotenone within a year or so. Fishing has been way off for the last couple of years. Diamond is still mostly frozen over so the available water is very limited and I imagine the water temps are hovering around 32 degrees.
I'd have to say that neither is a good option right now.

Re: Mann Lake
Thanks, we're actually going the week after Memorial Day.
Might be pretty good at Diamond by then.

Re: Mann Lake
Well, it turns out the group is set on Mann. If the fishing stinks, we will have Donner und Blitzen, and Krups(?) resevoir to fall back on.
I'll post a report upon my return at the end of the trip (end of May) but if anyone is interested I'd like to keep this thread updated with reports until then. Thanks for all who sent PMs

Re: Mann Lake
Talked to the Diamond lake resort today and it's getting pretty slushy. They've been breaking thru the 1st layer but stopping at the 2nd . He said about knee deep! The total is still 3' - 4' of ice & snow. If it clears off and gets cold at night it may be ice fishable this weekend.

Re: Mann Lake
It's a relatively small community of folks that fishes Mann early season....anyone have the name or a link to the story?

I fished there last week for several. Found a few fish but only brought one to hand. Water visability about a foot.

Re: Mann Lake
Was there on Fri with wife and friends, but between the very low water and cattle all about, we opted for a tour of Mickey HS and a hike and dinner up Pike Creek.
Here are 2 pictures of the north shore. The green zone with all the cattle is usually under water.

Must have been tough to launch your NR SeaHawk in those conditions?

The boat trailer tires blew out on the way in, so we didn't get to try a launch

Re: Mann Lake
Mann Lake was terrible. Low water, no fish, gold or otherwise.
Wind blew hard, weather changed often, got worse.
Made our way to the other side and had a little luck in the Donner and Blitzen chucking flies. From there we found another resevoir that was quite good. Several 16-18 inchers to the boat, several more lost including a hog that snapped off my fly rod at the boat.
