Default Reel Question

I picked up a box on fishing gear from my Grandpa's this past weekend. I got the box from a friend of his while I was still in high school, some 15 years ago. I found a reel in parts in a box, a Penn 85. I managed to put it back together and it works. I looked for information about it on the net, but the only thing I could find was it may be a ocean reel. Any information would be appreciated, like line weight, naked reels just don't look right to me and what it would be used for. I don't really have any plans to use it but I am curious to know.

Thanks for any help.

Scott-

You can give Penn a phone call or shoot an email to one of their representatives. I'm sure they have a website that contains contact information.

I believe what you have is the predecessor of the current Penn 185.

This is a bay and bottom fishing reel. The newer models have a 3.5:1 gear ratio and hold 350yds. of 20lb. line.

Pretty basic reels with no level wind but 'reel' workhorses!
