Default AR 15 laser sight in question

Do you consider a laser a shorter range aiming divice? I got a top-notch laser for the price of a song (and you wouldn't want to hear me sing), so I'm wanting to use it in a way that makes sense on my AR.

Right now I have it intersecting the optics at about 75 yards.

What's your preference, and why? Do you just match it up with your optics' zero?

Thanks.

In the military we used, green lasers, rarely, but it was in close combat situations. Less than 10 yds. because there wasn't much time to draw a bead on your enemy. Seconds counted in those conditions.

Now that sounds kind of intense. I hope my own worst enemy is nothing more than a rabbit. By the way, this laser I got is green, too.
