Owyhee River raft trip - Three Forks to Rome
I'm looking for people to go on a commercially guided paddle raft trip with me and my girlfriend down the middle stretch of the Owyhee River in Southeast Oregon from May 4-6. You should have some whitewater rafting experience with class IV rapids.
The trip requires a minimum of 4 additional clients. Do a google search for River Drifters Owyhee River, Middle section -- which describes the trip. They supply most things (food, raft(s), tents, dry bags, porta-potty, etc), while you supply personal items (clothes, sleeping bag and pad, etc). It's $500 -- a bargain for a 3 full day guided trip, with food provided!
I need to get committed people with $ by the end of next week. It's not quite the Grand Canyon -- but it's still looks like an awesome experience that is much more affordable.
Please send me a PM if interested.
Thanks,
BlindSquirrel

It is a beautiful stretch. That float was on OPB last year (i think). All my family lives in that country, literally on the Owyhee (or in a few instances, in the Owyhee)
Just be sure to bring WARM clothes... may is still not 'warm' time in that country.

Re: Owyhee River raft trip - Three Forks to Rome
Thanks guys for the replies. Looking at the general ifish profile (biased toward the older - uh - I mean more experienced crowd) -- I guess this is the wrong site to expect many takers.
Are there no hardcore rafters on ifish? Or just none interested in the Owyhee at this time? Probably time to expand the request to some rafting specific sites...
Cheers,

Re: Owyhee River raft trip - Three Forks to Rome
Most of us old (expereinced) guys have jobs, familes, and etc....... To book a vacation on seconds notice is difficult. I hope you get to experience the complexities of life with your girlfriend at some point in time.
You need a really old guy who is done working. But really old guy and sleeping on the ground probably not a great mix either.
Seriously, I would post on Craigs List in Boise for BSU, Northwest Nazarene Univ. or College of Idaho students if there is any interest. There is an REI here in Boise also a fair amount of kayakers and rafters. You might try some of those shops as well.
THere are a fair amount of people here that do that float out of here unguided.

I have rafted many rivers.
Looks like a deal. Love that country. I have antelope...I mean pronglope hunted twice there and have spent many a week there as a kid in the summers..
But life gets in the way now. Sorry.

Hey Duckwheat -- I didn't think a seven day decision window for a May 2nd trip was exactly a "seconds notice"? I'm not a spring chicken either so I do understand the complexities of life - work, family, expenses, etc.
I just thought there might be more interest from an ifish-sized audience, but I do understand this is a specialized request that would have a very narrow interest - where time, money, interest, and ability all come into play as limiting factors. As you mention -- the limiting factors are often mutually exclusive. On a related topic -- I thought Baltz's request for a hunting partner on an epic journey would have had more interest too.
I also do many self-guided raft trips -- but this one is just above my comfort level for a first time visit.
Yes -- the other sites you mention may be a good place to try - thanks!
Peace,
BlindSquirrel
