Default Dumb Canoers

Heard news flash that two people in a canoe went over the falls at Oregon City today. Sad if they did, but even sadder, the rescue people went in too. Should be on Evening news. With all the rain and high water, why would anyone even think of being anywhere near the falls. I have been in a boat above the falls when the water wasn't even this high and the flow gets mighty strong when you don't have a motor. Poor rescue guys probably feel bad enough but for them to go in, not too good.

KGW has the story. They report that it may have been a log the witness saw, rather than a canoe, and they don't believe any rescue people went over. They capsized though.

I saw a ambulance pulling a yellow zodiac type boat behind it this afternoon going by work with lights and sirens on. I had never seen this rescue boat before, and was surprised an abulance was pulling it. At least it looked like an ambulance. I would guess it was headed for this rescue.

Now they say that the rescue boat was downstream of the falls. And it might have been a log. The rescue boat sucked debris into the jet and it died. Oops as all you jet boaters know, they don't run too well that way. The commander said that the then flipped. He was trapped underneath which could have made this very bad. I hope that there were no canoers but we won't know for a while.

That rig was upstream the other day supposedly a man in the river above the falls. Never did hear what happened.

That river was very full of debris and fast today. Not to good for trolling, much less anchor fishing. Sorry Fishin Mission, guess you will have to consentrate on the Clackamas.

BOE: that sounds like them. I have seen Clackamas Fire working the yellow zodiac on the Clack quite a bit. Both for practice and for real.

I passed the yellow Zodiac/Ambulance combo on my way to the Clack...thinking..."Geez...I hope no-one was stupid enough to be up near the falls........."

The water up near the deadline is really cookin', and I couldn't imagine for an instant being in that area...even if I was operating a "rescue boat".

VERY, VERY, treacherous water. Those firemen in the boat that flipped were very lucky.

If you ask me...they shoulda been a bit lower...like near the O.C. /West Linn bridge. You have to see the water at the deadline to comprehend the "power". Gives me the shakes!!

Hawgcatcher, the guy that was in the river that you were wondering about was fished out of the river (alive) by local fire dept. crews in the yellow boat. He fled from the police after a trafic stop and jumped into the river to escape.
