Default Cold Gators, 1-4-04

Couldn't contain myself any longer and went out with a friend to try for some gators, despite the cold. Roads were fine and launched at Cathedral. Spent most of the day around KP, but moved into the Willamette for the last part. No keepers today, but consistent action on shakers. KP were all pretty small, but the Willamette gave us three in the 40" and 41" range (should've started there ). These fish were pretty aggressive, given the cold water.

Tacklebuster, thanks for all your posts on gator fishing. Being pretty new to this stuff, I really enjoy all the info you provide. Maybe some day I'll learn enough to share with others.

Saw about 12 other boats out. Kept the wind at our bow and the heater on, so it was a pretty nice day. On one move, we took a splash over the bow and the water froze pretty quickly to the windshield. This made a nice pattern, lending an artistic touch to the trip.

Since this is a prety boring story, I'll add a picture to get some of you going.

Hey, he said the jacket was real warm. And I'll let anybody in my boat, regardless of which team they root for (politics may be a different matter ).

This time of year there are quite a few fish to be had in the Multnomah Channel and in the big Willy. You should try fishing around the rail road bridge just up from the St. Johns bridge sometime. I have caught some real nice keepers in that 40 foot area under the rail road bridge this time of year.

Thanks for the report and I'm glad you had a great time. Keep throwing hook and catching fish and before too long I'll be asking you for advice
