Default Big Creek, Gnat Creek Report , and the days mishaps

High Muddy fast moving almost un fishable water. That was my experiance today. We spoke with a guy at the Big Creek Hatchery and he said that only 4 steelhead have come up so far. We looked at him funny when he said that because we went through alot of trouble to go fishin'
First off we leave at 5:30 am, we know the water will be high but were gonna go anyway. We get past claskanine and are just about to west port when....the winsheild wipers quit working I wasent to happy about that. It was raining really really hard. So we drove to claskanine with no wipers and sat in a resturant and drank coffe while waiting for Napa to open. The finally open at 9. We ask the man at the counter to help us he comes out and pokes a few things with his test light and says its the switch and he dosent have one is stock. :depressed: So we drive to raineer and talk to a man at an autoparts store, he comes outside runs some test concludes its the wiper motor and he dosent have one in stock  So we said ah heck while were on sucha role here lets go all the way back to St. Helens. We get here and go to Coopers auto parts. They have the part in 70 BUCKS  !! ahhhhh that was all the money in my wallet. Finally we come to my house. Pull the old one off. Try to put the other one on.. the new one has bad threads on bolt that hooks to the wiper. SEESH ! We go BACK to coopers the re thread it we go home put it all togeather and are on the rode by noon. And it was raining hard and fishing sucked

But it was better than sitting at home on the computer.

Sounds like quite the bummer. A friend of mine and I several years ago pulled a similiar stunt. Never had the wiper problems, but we took off at about the same time and drove nearly 275 miles that day! The interesting part is that we saw nearly every small creek and midsized river on the north coast and NEVER PULLED A ROD OUT ALL DAY! Great fishing trip...!

"Bad gear day" Been there and done that too. Hopefully you'll get a "good catching day" soon to help you forget. Good luck on winters this season.

Dustin,

Shoot me an e-mail. I fished a stream this weekend on the coast that wasn't blown out. It was the only stream in 100+ miles that was fishable, and I had it all to myself. It was scary fishing conditions to say the least, Limbs were dropping out of trees, the only thing I saw was a few dark coho's, but at least it was a nice green color.

I would have just bought some rainX to wipe on my windsheild, this stuff saved my ass when my wiper motor went out.
