Getting ready to take a drift down the siletz and heard there was a pretty hairy rapid below moonshine
right at the campground
anyone know the scoop or of any other hazards to look out for?
The slide in boat launch at Logsden is no longer. A Californian bought the property, and posted it private. Lack of maintenance led to the demise of the primitive launch.
About two miles below the town of Logsden you'll find the Twin Bridges launch (forgot the name of the park, but it's the first bridge you'll come across heading to the town of Siletz). You can launch there and take out at the town. It would probably be your best bet.
I saw two people put in today at the slide in in the gorge...holy cow! You wouldn't ever find me doing that when the water was 4.5!

Moonshine is no place for a person that is not good on the sticks. I don`t like to try it below 5 feet. If you are not good and just learning go down to the town drift or lower. It is a good place to learn and you wont get yourself in trouble. If your good with your boat go for it, it`s not that bad.
I did it at 3.7 a few years back to see how many fall chinook scoot up in that shallow stuff in early october. It wasn't as dangerous as it was a pain in the rear dragging across shallows. It sure is a different looking river at that level though.

If I knock my own salmon off with the net in the middle of the ocean and nobody saw it, did it actually happen?
Salmonater,
Did you drift down from Moonshine? I know of a few people who like to drift certain stretches for summers water level permitting. Have you ever done that?

no we were told the river level was too low to put in at moonshine
and that the logsden put in was no more so we put in at twin bridges .
got a late start so it was plenty to take out at heheillahee
Rastaman, re-read the entire thread.
My question was directed to Salmonator, not yourself.
Glad to hear you found a fish, though! I got a nice little native myself this weekend.
