Glock Sub-Compacts
I'm thinking of getting the 26 for concealed carry. It's pretty small and light compared to my SW 6904 or 2.5" 66 and defnitely less than my Champion 1911. I may look at the 357 sig, but will probably stay with the 9mm for ammo considerations. Anyone have one, and if so, can you provide personal feedback, pros and cons, etc...I just want something EASILY concealable. I don't like the lack or power on the 2" .38. I wish someone still made a small revolver in 9mm. Thanks for the input.

Re: Glock Sub-Compacts
I held a G-27 ;40S&W; with mag pinky thing. I found it fit very well. So I got one. Put the mag extension thing on. I still like it. I since looked at the G-36; 45Auto; 'cause it was thin.
So yeah I like the subs as long as you put the grip extension thing on the mag. Or have a 15rnd mag to put in it as a mega grip..

Re: Glock Sub-Compacts
Take a look at the Springfield XD compact series. They have perfect ergos and with a pinky rest on the small mags, fill the hand much better with the right grip angle compared to a Glock 26. They are a good bit more accurate too. I never could get a Glock to go under a salad plate sized spread at 15 yards -- the XD goes 2" in my hands in 45XD or 9XDC.

Re: Glock Sub-Compacts
I personally would shy away from the 9mm. If you are going to carry, you might as well make it a caliber that counts!! I carry my G27 where ever I go. I can't contest that the Springfield XD's aren't good guns, but I've never had trouble holding good groups with any of my Glocks.

Re: Glock Sub-Compacts
I have a Glock 33 chambered in .357sig. I like it a lot and pack it daily. It has many rounds through it and has never given me a problem.

I have a 45 and 357 mag, but won't be shooting them in a small enough package that I'm looking for. 9mm is a proven manstopper with the HST round and little in kick for the size and weight of gun I'm interested in, plus I own one already, I was concerned on ammo with the 10mm and 357 sig. I will check out the XD's, but if they are as big and blocky as my 3.5" 6904 I probably won't be going there. After carrying on and off for the last 10 yrs or so I've come to the conclusion I need/want a smaller package.
One factor may be that I use a wheelchair, and high ride hip holsters are no good for me. Recoil is not really a factor within reason as I have a 2.5" k frame 357 I love to shoot.
Thanks for all the input. I just need to make a decision I've been contemplating for a couple weeks. Gotta buy the new gun.

I have a 26 with the pinky extension and love it. I have fairly big hands, but it still fits nicely.

Re: Glock Sub-Compacts
Another option if you still want a mini Glock is to send it to ARS (Arizona Response Systems) for a grip reduction and possibly grip-angle change to match the 1911. Costs about $190. The Glocks all point 1-2 front site pins too high for my natural grip with eyes closed.

26 is a great compact gun. It will be my next glock. The Glocks I have shoot great and the grip angle is perfect for me.

Without going into too much detail, I can say for certain the 9 will stop a person. Especially with the high exspanion bullets we have today.
And the 26 is a great gun, after trying a friend of mines. A couple of us went and bought them. They are small, light and with little practice are surprisingly accurate. The grip takes a little getting used too, but thats the trade off for a sub-compact gun. We all got one magazine with the extension and one without. That way you can have a more comfortable grip, or the short one for concealment. And on top of everytning its a Glock, so when you pull the trigger, you know its gonna fire. And I have yet to see one that isn't accurate.
I'd go to a shop and pick a few up and see what feels best in your hand.

Re: Glock Sub-Compacts
I like QW's comments on the Glock it's a perfect carry gun / tool for self defense. No safety issues, no decocker nothing to screw you up in a real self defense situation.

Re: Glock Sub-Compacts
I have a normal frame glock 40 (21/22?) and have had great luck with it, but I would not even consider concealed carry with it as it is pretty big. I have a friend that is a cop and ended up getting a kel tek pf-9 semi auto 9mm on his advice for concealed carry. I guess it is a very common backup or conceal gun for the police. Sometimes they can be hard to find in stock, but that is what I now use (when/if I feel the need). It only has a 7 round magazine, but it is supposed to be the smallest lightest s/a 9mm available. For a 9 it has some pretty healty recoil...pretty similar to a small frame 357.

You know, a lot of people want high capacity mags and whatnot, but if you think about it, if you can't get it done in seven rounds, maybe you should be rethinking your situation.
IMO seven rounds is plenty.

Re: Glock Sub-Compacts
I am mandated to carry Glocks in .40, any model. I chose the 27 simply because its light, powerful, and accurate...none of the Glocks fit me though, but I have no choice. If I am participating in something where I know ahead of time the potential for trouble exists I carry a rifle. Prior to being forced to carry the .40 I had the 32 in .357 sig. I would advise against the baby glock in .357, the recoil is way too severe. 9mm is great, get some Speer Gold Dot 125 gr HP +P and be happy.
Many may call BS on this, but I regularly put 60 rounds during quals from 3 yards back to 25 all in the space slightly larger than a computer CD with the 27. I also killed wild boar with the little thing last year....again I may sound like a Glock fan, I'm not trying to be. They don't fit me right, but they seem to shoot very well for me inspite of all that.
regards
G

I used to feel comfortable with 7 rounds of +P in my 357 when I'm tromping around out in the woods, but when I'm more undergunned (with the 9mm) for a potential bear/cougar attack I'd be more secure having the extra magazine capacity.

That's the beauty of the Glocks. The mags are interchangeable.
My G19 can use G21 and G18 mags giving it a capacity of 15-33 rounds.
If you get the G26, keep a G19 or G21 mag as backup.
The G18 mags are a little much, but fun to play with

Re: Glock Sub-Compacts
I also qualify quarterly with a Glock. I have 5 of them now. 3 of them in .40 and 2 in 9mm. The G-35, G-23, and G-27 in .40 and the G-19 and G-26 in 9mm. The latter 2 are my wifes. Bottom line? Shoot the most powerful caliber that you can accurately and consistently place rounds on target. Im fond of the Glocks. Can you tell?

Re: Glock Sub-Compacts
I have to concur..why settle for 9mm..when more serious calibers are available in the same sized weapon.. 9mm is a great target/plinking round..but I don't anticipate having to defend myself from any targets..

Re: Glock Sub-Compacts
The glocks have interchangeable frames I think, which means you can take the slide assembly off and interchange to different calibers. I think it is just about as expensive for the additional slide and barrel assembly, but could serve your purpose. If you want to go hunting and need the extra power, change it to a 40 or 45 and bring an interchangeable hicap mag for the extra mag. Then when ur in town or want to plink, change it back to 357 or 9mm for practice.
Another cool thing about glock is the GSSF or Glock Sport Shooting Foundation, which has annual competitions indoor/outdoor in just about every western state, they might even do it in every state. The competitions are fun and give you a chance to put your glockin skills up against the rest of the community and even possibly some professionals. Check out their website www.gssfonline.com
Glocks are the way to go if you can't afford an H&K
