Default Blue water rod

I am in the market for a couple of blue water rods for fishing down off the Baja Peninsula in Mexico. I am looking for rods in the 10 -12 weight range. The rods I am looking at so far are the TFO Blue Water series, TiCr and TiCrX, Echo and Winston Vapor.

I will mostly be using them for Roosterfish, Jacks, Tuna, Striped Marlin, Etc. So the biggest thing is something I can cast real quick with lots of lifting power. Any feedback on the above rods?

I have several of the TFO TICRX series and they are excellent fast action rods. I also have a could of the Echo Classic series and they did great for me last time I was in Mexico.

No experience with any of the above.

I would consider a ten weight, while a large fish rod, not a rod for "blue water".

I used a G. Loomis GLX Cross Current 12 weight for Trevally and it was more then adequate.

You might want to check out the Beulah Blue water rods. River City carries the Beulah rods. They sell for about $398 and Don will give you a "deal" by throwing in a fly line.

If you are considering the Echo2 12wt I would go cast it with the desired line. My dad picked one up for a back up rod and it is a very stiff rod, doesn't cast a floater very well. For shooting head blue water work it would work great. My 12wt is a Sage FLi and its great with a Tarpon taper or my Tropic Express 450gr.

I was very happy with my 10 wt st croix, at one point I had what I guess was a yellowtail though it looked to me like an amberjack (about as long as my leg with a prominent eye stripe) follow a clouser up from the grottos...gulp, but lets face it, a boat rod with a penn 4/0 and 100lb braid would not turned have that brute on it's first run and you would burn out your arm the first day if you tried to make 200 casts to the rocks with a 12 wt....

My partner fished an 11 wt orvis and I fished the the 10, they both worked well for most things. If you are serious about targeting yellowtail, offshore tuna, or billfish I would include a 12 wt. I had a 12 rigged in the boat (reddington) but never really used it - I was ready to for a tense 3 minutes until the striped marlin disappeared.

There is a guy building shorter blue water rods (Cam Seigler?) you should check out for a short lifting 12-13 rod and the last time I checked the prices were reasonable.
