Default A fishery Christmas!

How would you folks feel about donating some money to help out our fisheries? A Christmas present for an organization?
The organization should be solid, should be related to our interests here, and agreed upon by the majority on ifish.
I would love ifish to contribute in this way!
My vote goes for Tillamook Anglers, Dreamcasters, Oregon Wildlife Heritage Foundation, or NW Steelheaders (legal fund for river rights access). More? I'm sure I have forgotten some really good groups.
Of course, I haven't totally thought this through, and I would love to have some input from you folks.
I would be willing to use the site to organize it. I could set up a pay pal account just for this purpose with access to the records by a committee, or just collect the checks from my PO box and keep tabs on it.
We could have volunteers to help with that sort of thing also. I am just trying to figure out the easiest way to do this.
We would have to agree easily, and keep it simple, as our time is limited.
Thanks,
(Sorry for posting so much, I'm on a roll!)
We could make a difference!
Jen

Oh yeah, for next year, if we get it together, we could do a banquet, and charge 10 or so over the cost of the meal... Invite the charity of choice, and present it right there!
Dang, I would love that!!!

Banquets are fun and easy to do. After 24 years of raising money for Ducks Unlimited I'd love a new cause cause we got ducks all over the place now! Love to help.

What a great idea!
I like the idea of Tillamook Anglers. I think it needs to be just one group and I don't think BOE would spend the money wisely.
Making donations through PayPal is a great idea!

All great groups Jen, hard to pick one. You can count on me for a contribution. The banquet idea would be fun. I bet a few of the board sponsors and guides might offer trips or gear to offer as raffle door prizes or auction items.

Jennie-

Thanks for suggesting Dream Casters. Last year's event created some opportunities for disabled and disadvantaged youngsters that they would never have had otherwise.

The 2002 event will benefit many more kids and we hope to see everyone there!

I am going to give a gift for one of these organizations. I haven't decided which yet, but I am going to do it in the name of ifish.
I can't afford much. Maybe 50.00. Maybe 25.00...
Anyway, if you would like to join me, write to me at salmon@seasurf.net.
Specify which group you would like and perhaps we figure it out from there.
I know that it is a rough Christmas for many. If you have time rather than money, call your local hatchery and donate a day or two of help.
They'll love it!

The charity banquet sounds like a great idea! Taking donations of trips and gear, and then having an auction, would be nice in addition to the amount generated with meal and drink tickets.

This fall I went to Lusk, Wyoming to go hunting--first time. Every year the local Elks put on a banquet the night before the season opens. There must have been at least 2000 people there from all over the country! Considering the fact that the whole town's population is only about 1500, I'd say the attendance was pretty large. At any rate, they raised a ton for their charity. Unlike the typical banguet, e.g., Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, it didn't cost much to attend--$8 for a meal ticket and $2 for drinks (full bar). They had a raffle--mostly small items donated by local businesses that were raffled off to anyone with a meal ticket--with the grand prize of a new rifle which went to a pool of seperate ticket holders. My point in telling this story--yes, there's a point for those of you beginning to wonder--is that the exact same thing could easily be done in Tillamook. I would guarantee they raised over $10,000 the night I was in Lusk. Wouldn't it be awesome to donate $10,000 to the broodstock program, or for river access, or for whatever?

This is kind of an aside, but does anyone know the current status of the John Day access case? The last I'd heard, Judge Paul Lipscomb (Marion County Circuit Court) was going to hear the case. That was a long time ago, though.
