got off work today and had a few hours of daylight left so i grabbed some calls and the dog. went to a spot about 8 miles from the house and just started walking. after a mile or so stopped and made a few yelps, had two immediate responses! one from the south, other from the east. sure got my blood goin. gave them a few more yelps just for fun then figured i'd leave them alone for now and went did some shed hunting. no luck there but after about an hour i had made a large circle and was back at my original calling spot. thought "what the hey, see if they're still in the same spots." couple yelps later the one to the east let loose in the same spot. another yelp and the one that had been south was dang near on top of me!!! i had to run away from him so i wouldn't spook him! god i love this game! anyway in one hour that turkey covered some ground gettin to where he last heard me, a patch of reprod and two large draws had been in between us. made me wonder if maybe our season in oregon is a little late?? hopefully they wont all be henned up by then but either way i'll be after them every chanch i can. good luck to all.
yah, that particular spot is a place that's not as well known around here but some others are in the more popular area's. plus some private timber lands towards the coast that i work on and am pretty sure almost no one knows about. or they dont turkey hunt. so i should be good to go this year. just about driving myself crazy gettin ready and thinkin about it. even startin to dream about it at night now, there's no gettin away from it where are you planning on hunting this year??
