Default Fishing options Hillsboro area

I have a friend that has two small children anxious to try their first trip fishing this weekend. I recently moved to Hillsboro and don't have much experience in the area.

I have fished Hagg lake and Vernonia Pond with the same luck...none.

Anybody have any suggestions for good bank access with some possibilities in the west PDX area?

Bethany Pond can produce depending on when its stocked. Youll only get 10 inchers but for kids thats all you need. Most of the trout ponds around here are good depending on when they get stocked. Check out the odfw site for the schedule. Ive been to vernonia and havn't caught one and I've also been there when I couldnt get back to my chair to sit down before having a bite.

Dorman's Pond out near Gales Creek. I am not sure when it was last stocked. There are bass and catfish as well as trout.

I second commonwealth, it was stocked not to long ago, I have never produced fish out of anywhere but commonwealth, they are stockers but my kids love it. Hey rascallyrabbit, my son uses that rod/reel I got from you, it's a fish killer. thanx again.

I was at Commonwealth for a bit on Saturday and watched a few fish be caught including 1 that was a 19" holdover.

wow! I have seen a few but have never caught one my self. I have heard that every so often they stock it with trophies for derbies or something but I would assume there are a few decent sized hold overs.

I'll probably take my wife to Commonwealth tomorrow afternoon if the weather looks . She likes to walk around the lake multiple times while I fish. I know that powerbait works great in there. I like to throw small panther martins (I don't have the patience for bait).

Good luck and tight lines.

Fished commonwealth today 3/24. Missed a bunch a hits land 3 for dinner. Guy next to me got his limit then I took over his spot. Other people look to be catching fish but slow. I was there for about 2 hours so I put some time in. On the good side, I saw two bald eagles and one hawk get a fish. Good luck if you plan on going and be patient, couple time I got caught off guard because i was walking around or staring at the eagles.

The water is green but the fish tend to be down a little deeper to keep away from all the ducks/geese.

I took my 4 nephews on Tuesday and we caught 11 or 12 between the 5 of us. Mine were on spinners and all of theirs on works or Pautzke's.
