I'm the first person to admit that in certain things, I "technology challenged", at best... BUT...
I snuck off to NC to do some shopping for my trip West this summer and found this cute, little devil!!!
XOG™ Road-Trail-Water Crossover Navigator
After spending the better part of 40 minutes looking at all the different models, the sales guy and I decided on this one for my needs.
I tried it last night on the way home and it worked GREAT!!!
I can plan routes, it'll do the voice: "Turn Here" directions (I always get lost in Indianapolis) and even has a "bread crumbs" feature that will allow me to place a waypoint at the beginning of a trip on foot and will leave markers to my destination and then back to the starting point.
I wish I'd had this unit when my son decided to get us lost at the bottom of the Sandy river canyon, after dark, on a fishin' expedition two years ago. In near total darkness, lit only by a couple of small flashlights, he promptly announced we missed the trail back out... Going straight up a steep canyon wall, through thick brush, in the middle of the night, is not as much fun as it was when I was 25.
Anyway, I spent some time playing with it last night at home and set up a trip map from Virginia to Oregon, including turn-by-turn voice instructions for every place I want to go through... Is that cool or what?
It says it's accurate to within less than 10' and it will track me in my own house! It's kinda spooky watching yourself walk from the living room to the dining room!!!
No extra maps to buy and it came with a dc adapter for my truck and other adapter to power the unit and charge my battery from my laptop or pc...
GAWD - I love the occasional new toy.
What do you think... is this a useful tool for bank fishing in an unfamiliar area?
