Default DB minn kota mount

So I am going electric on the drifter. My questioin is. Does anybody mount it on the port or starboard side near the rowers seat? If so why or why not??

I do, because it is too difficult to get behind the rower seat in my boat, 14' and narrow back there, plus usually alot of junk.
Does make steering a bit of an adventure, however.
