Cool Dick's Sporting goods what a surprise

Dick's is now open at Washington Square and they are selling long guns at WA Square....
I think we have a new sporting goods store in Oregon that will be in the running for the best in price and selection. I love competition in the market, the selection is impressive.
Grand opening is still set for 3-29-08 but they are open now and working out the kinks.

Last time I visited a Dick's Sporting goods was in Minn. and I wasn't too impressed with their selection in the fishing dept. Seemed like a "generic canned" selection, even for the midwest. It'll be interesting to see if they improved at all moving out here, or if they are still the same old mall store. Either way I'm in no rush to move from Sportsmans, Joes or Fishermans Marine.

How their tackle selection? Are the prices reasonable?

Fly selection looked good a little pricey but the quality looked good.
The rest of the gear looked good, quality products at or below the other stores prices in town. The selection was better than Joe's at least for the stuff I like , good sales on ammo from time to time too.

Rumor has it; that Dicks is in the process of taking over all the Joe's stores. Can't confirm the accuracy of the rumor, but that is what I heard.

It's possible that some company like Dick's will end up with Joe's they were purchased buy a California investment firm that holds companies 3-5 years. I did hear the same rumor from two different Bi-Mart employees, but I would guess they are not correct. I could see Sportsmart buying Joe's they carry similar off brand items.

The Buyers at Dicks are trying to have a NW flavor to the tackle dept. They picked up my line of flashers last july in preperation for this store opening. As of now the Wash Sq. store is the only store in their chain to have our flashers. So they do adjust inventory for the market they are in. If you want them to carry something they dont have make dure you ask the tackle manager to stock it. If they get enough requests they can bring it in as a new line.
