Default any info on fifteen mile creek outside of The Dalles?

took a drive up that way today looking for fire road access to the Deschutes. That stream looked to be very nice little trout stream but I have found no info in the Fishing Oregon book or during a search of this forum.

PM's are fine

I will say that where you think you can drive an access road to the Deschutes off of fifteen mile creek is not that wonderful of a road. I wouldn't drive it again without a full on real 4wd and bombproof tires. Sections of it dropped a few hundred feet on the driver side while the passenger side was almost touching rock and the oil pan was millimeters from rubbing stone on a Ford Escape. It's committing and no real place to turn around until you get almost to the bottom. If two vehicles meet during the 1000+foot descent, someone better be rock steady in their backing skills.

Juststeve,
Here's the regs on 15 mile creek.

Fifteenmile Creek and tributaries
(Wasco Co.)
Catch and release for trout May 24-Oct. 31.
Closed from head of slackwater located at the mouth to 200 feet upstream from fishway located at Seufert Falls.

I did an electroshocking survey on the upper portions of 15, 8, and 5 mile creeks. Lots of small trout in the upper sections and some pretty significant steelhead spawning in the lower reaches.

The road you're describing sounds like the road to Kloan. Not for those with a fear of heights. You don't want to head down there in anything other than a full on 4x4. If it starts to rain either plan on staying for a while or get out before the road turns in to a gumbo clay waterfall. If you slid off that road it would be a long roll down the canyon before you stopped in the river. It can get amazingly crowded at Kloan during steelhead season but it's often worth it.

The lower section of Fifteen Mile is through private property. Last year was the first year in about 5 years that it wasn't totally bone dry during the summer. Give it a few years and the fish will come back, not that there is any access on it.
