Where are they getting the hot water from on the motor?
Yamaha says to re route the pee water. Not to tap into or rob water from the motor... |

Got mine in today's mail. I'll go to the hardware store
tomorrow and see if I can find some tubing and shutoff valve and should have it installed in a short time thereafter. Part looks good and very easy to install! Thanks to all that kept this thread going so I could purchase one. Warm hand wash next time out for sure! fop

I apologize to each of you, I sent PM's back today. I seldom get on the site so I didn't realize there were still people interested in the part. I can always be reached at huntnphool@aol.com as I check email several times a day. Again, sorry for any inconveniece this may have caused, I hope you all got things worked out.

Made the trip to the hardware store and bought:
5 feet of 1/4" plastic hose 1 inline brass shutoff valve 2 little hose clamps for securing 1/4" hose to stern. Came home and installed and it worked perfectly. Nothing fancy but it works. I already had the aluminum box for a small sink so now I have some hot water. Bring on the Hot Dogs! ![]() Thanks again huntnfool and others that helped along the way, ![]() fop

You guys have little faith in the man. once you have used it when the weater is cold you too will sing his praise. Easy to install and it works. the last thing it does not cost alot of money and that anode is still installed and protecting your motor.

Go to True value. they are used as gas line shut off valves (plastic)
size is 1/4 inch hose barb type. 1/4 turn model. About 4.00 bucks.

Wow, surprised this thread is still here.
I got my shutoff valve at Home Depot in the irrigation section. It is a simple plastic 1/4 in shut off valve for micro sprinkler systems. It's made by DIG Irrigation Products and comes in a pack of two for about $4 as noted below |

I have an older 2-stroke Suzuki kicker (DT-8). Would something like this be possible in my case? What would I need to do?

I finally got around to installing my annode tap for hotwater on my 2009 Yamaha 9.9 HT. We have a second helm including remote start, throttle and choke. Unfortunately some of the componenents for the remote start/choke sit right on top of the annode.
Has anyone ran into this? I am going to have to do some modifications and was curious what others may have done? Thanks Doug |

The warm water flow is really minor. Don't expect it to pee out like your coolant vent. Takes awhile to fill the tank. If the tank is built in or level with the transom you'll get some inside splash when it gets rocking out. I have a small inline brass valve to open/close flow. That being said I have it and nothing like rinsing your hands in warm water or thaw bait.

Okay I'm gonna bring this one to the top...
This summer mine was plenty hot and almost too hot. Now while sturgeon fishing this winter its warm to say the most. Now I know this was because the river was almost 70 and now its 39 -40 ish. So I'm looking for a little help. I tried to take a pic and explain how my 2009 T-8 was set up in 09' from NR in Roseburg. Hopefully the pic and my illustrations can be seen. Any and all help is mucho appriciated! ~The top caption point to the hose that goes directly to my basin (no shut off valve) ~ The caption to the right points to the brass "T" off the (what I beleve) is the thermostat and enters the block directly below. ~ The lower caption points to where I'm asking if the new anode being offered onthis post is installed.

Ordered my part last week and recieved it. Called a dealer ( ) and they did not rec. this as an option for hot water. They said that this takes too much heat from your engine and does not allow the thermostat to operate correctly. The water around here is just too cold and thus robs the engine and does not allow it to get warm even if a shut off switch is installed. They also said that they have made alot of money working on engines that had this set up.
What do you guys that have had them in for awhile think? Are you having any problems? Now that I have the part, I want to install it, but I'm still just a little nervous. Is the dealer just saying that to get me to come in and have them install it their way?

So far I have not had any problems. Big Daddy from Gamefishin did say his mechanics from three rivers marine in Woodinville say that they have seen problems with this setup. This is the only set up that has the Anode still where the factory intended it to be. He did not answer if the engines that were having the problems had the anode in place or not.
A few mods done by people would remove the anode and drill the bolt to install the fitting. Without the Anode in the system there will be problems. His coments are: Big_Daddy wrote:Be carefull guys. The method shown in the first pictures with the "replaced part" is a troublesome solution at best. A few dealers were rigging the hot tank this way.....However it is not the best way to do it. The service department out at Three Rivers Marine has seen numerous failures when T8's are "plumbed" this way. The "proper" and easiest way to plumb in the hot tank is by removing the "middle back" hose being pointed to in the last photo. Plug the hose off and attach your hot box feed hose to the now vacant fitting. If you guys have any questions about this, please call Curt or Dave at Three Rivers Marine 425-415-1575. They would be happy to help you over the phone and make sure you don't cause problems for yourself. Trust me guys....we have seen the results of the other method. Second quote is As I stated earlier, if you have any questions, call Curt or Dave and ask them over the phone. Or come in and they will show you. If you have a mod the works...good. I was simply passing on what we at Three Rivers have seen in our service department's experiences with such modifications. As long as the anode is in the system the results will be the same where ever you pull the water off of. No more.......no less....

Not sure if that reply was for me or not???
I'm just asking is my current set up better, warranty compliant or worse than the part being sold. With this new part with the anode... will my water be hotter? And am i pointing to the right place for that new anode??? thanks!

Explain yourself. The why it's wrong part .Individual Service centers for outboards were modifiy the bolt head by removing the Anode and then drilling the head and installing the tube fitting. Bad! The part that I and others have retains the anode. it should not matter where you are pulling the water from the system as long as you have the anode in the system.

goatram....
The method you show, with the anode in place, is the same method we have seen problems with. If you have any questions, call Curt or Dave @ 425-415-1575 and they will happily explain why. I am not a mechanic, however I do work with some of the best Yamaha Factory Trained Technicians. |

It's starting to be Like Asking A Certain Fish Conservation Org. what is their public position.
Big Daddy What is the problems that you are seeing? Corrosion. Deposits on the cylinder or valve system? Your mechanics are busy and might not want to discuss the problems. I am not a regular customer of Three Rivers Marine. (did stop by your booth at the boat show to talk to you this last Saturday. Talked to Ray a bit.) Shawn B Did your motor become Junk? Did you have personal experience with this mod? I am not trying to start a fight just want to know what the PROBLEMS are. I have had mine on for a year. I so far have not had an issue that I know of.

Hi John,
I am definetely not trying to start a fight here. Just passing on the fact that our shop has witnessed issues with this set up. What the exact issues are....I am not fully versed on that. I got involved with this when I was asked by our Service Department to post a quick warning on Gamefishin when that post started up a while ago. Call Curt @ 425-415-1575. He will answer your questions with more detail then I can offer. You don't have to be a regular customer to get a straight answer.. |
