Default Deschutes Steelhead

Anyone been east of the big mountain pitching feathers at the river? The season is usually winding down about now, but it still might be worth a shot? Any recent reports?

Fishing has been good from what I have been hearing . Water temp 49 yesternay near maupin. Probably wanmer closer to warm springs. Fishing will remain good till the season closed at the end of the year.

Plenty of fish still to be had, bright ones too! Not as hot as a month ago but still good. fish are scattered throughout the system. I fished Macks canyon area Fri & Sat & got a few. Sounded like the guys above White River did better. River was off color under the White but still fishable. If your throwing flies go with sink tip & larger more visible patterns that will contrast from all the leaves in the water this time of year.

A buddy and myself got into 18 fish in one spot last week. Good looking fish for the most part. My first three casts with a freight train produced two fish.

Sharp hooks catch fish,
Pat

The Deschutes is still fishing, my friend and I
hooked over 20 fish in two days, fly fishing with
Spey rod, landed a 17# Buck hatchery probably from
the Clearwater river in Idaho. Used medium sink
lines and wooley buggers...
