Default Anyone Fish the North Umpqua this time of year?

I will be going home to Roseburg for turkey day, and could bring the drift with me if anything is going on in the North Umpqua (or Umpqua or South Umpqua). Anyone? I just bought the drift a couple months ago and although I have spent a fair amount of time swimming in the river, I have never floated it. Any help would be appreciated.

Take the boat, take the boat! There should be a good number of fish on both the N. and S Umpqua. I will be drifting the N Fork on Dec. 1st. The only thing that wouold hinder you from fishing is all this rain. I suggest you side drift eggs. Check reg for all info, there a lot of natives and I don't think you can keep them until Dec. 1st.

Finclipped,

Both Forks and main Umpqua have fish. My buddy is a diehard Umpqua man and he has been catching steelhead and silvers in the north and main river. Ammacher park under the freeway is a good place to put in on the north. Check the water levels and watch out for native fish. Backbouncing and sidedrifting eggs works well. Throwing wigglewarts in the pond water also works well on the silvers. If you put in at Ammacher be sure and fish under all the bridges and above the Davis Rapids(1st big set). good luck and let us know how you do.

Thanks for the responses. What levels are too high? Should I just look at the color and if its not too brown launch at Amacher and take out at River Forks? I have floated that section on an inner tube. (years ago.)

finclipped,

water level should be fine unless they get some monsoon type rainstorm. Any water level below 6ft is floatable and fishable. Hessness boat ramp is about halfway on north side of the river. My experience has been that most fish on this section are caught between Ammacher and Hessness. Remember not to look in the fish ladder before fishing as it is bad juju. GOOD LUCK

The Umpqua was fine yesterday and unless they got a real barn burner last night (we did not in Grants Pass) it will be just fine but possibly rising a bit.

We need about 4 inches of rain before any danger of blow out will come except maybe on the so. river.

The North is full of fish with more on the way....
go get 'em!!

Sounds good, I'm taking the boat!!! If I can enlist a couple family members to come along (need shuttle rig) I'll give it a try. I'll try plugs and eggs and see if I can turn a fish or two. Thanks again for all the help. (I'll avoid looking at the fish latter.)
