Default Fish story

Just got married on the 10th, and we went to Fiji for our honeymoon (AMAZING place!!!). While there, I decided to go scuba diving for the first time. The guide and I went down to ~40 feet, and we ran across a couple of triggerfish (not sure which type...but I am 90% sure it was a trigger of some type). These fish were approximately 3 feet long and HUGE!!! The bigger one turned to face us, showing us his HUGE ~2 inch teeth. It charged us several times, only to be chased back by our fins. A second one came at us from behind, with the same results...that one never came back. The big boy kept coming and coming, while we were trying to easily back out of the area. I thought we had a serious situation on our hands, but fortunately, he finally retreated. My guide ended up with a few bite marks in his fins from that thing.

The moral of the story...well, there isnt one. Just a very exiciting moment.

Congrats on setting the hook.........errr, I mean marriage. You just confirmed why I stay above water rather then in the water, thanks. Like I always said, if we were meant to be in the water, we would have gills instead of lungs.

What's a trigger fish look like besides 3 feet and big?

Probably not a trigger fish.

You sure it wasn't a baracuda? They tend to be aggressive, long, and have big pointy teeth.

Parker is right, the Trigger fish has that nasty spike/fin as there main defence, they stick it straight up when a much larger fish tries to eat them. The smaller spike behind the it is the trigger, if you touch that the larger spike lays down. Not sure how aggressive they are though.

I don't know if what cool texan described were triggerfish, but they are pretty agressive. They don't do well w/ other fish and I know for a fact that the will attack divers. Usually don't get to big however. 22" or so for most species.

After 10yrs of a buddy asking, I finally went on a 10day long range trip down in Mexico on the Polaris Supreme. Among 200lb yellow fin tuna, 65lb wahoo's, 65lb yellow tail, mahi, grouper, I caught a trigger fish. Saw/felt clouds of something nicking our line and going after our live bait. Actually damaging the 50lb line. Really cool looking. Don't take your 4/0 reels on a trip like this and think you'll get away with it. It was really really sad. Buy the end of the 3rd day, they were toast. I sure hope to go again someday.
