Default New kid on the block....

Hey all, this is my first message that I have posted on this site ( i just received my password)and just wanted to intro myself to you all and ask a question... HI!! Well I was just wondering where you all would recommend I go fishing tomorrow. I was planning on going to the Tillamook area and hit the Wilson, Trask, or the Kilchis from the bank. I am going to bobber fish with eggs, sandshrimp and maybe some jigs for the first time ( i am a diehard drift fisherman but thought i would try this method out)...

any recommended holes for bobber fishing on the wilson or trask for some bright chinook??? i think i have finally timed my trip to the coast perfectly being that the river seems to be dropping down to the perfect level to fish... what is the most common depth you bobber people fish at?? Thanks in advance for any advice and I hope to become a familiar name on this site..

Sculpin, welcome to Ifish!
Lots of good places to fish on the coast ... You'll probably have plenty of company where ever you go. The Wilson has a couple spots that would be good, right behind the guide shop are a couple holes, but you'll likely have lots of company. Further down the Wilson are Donaldson's at the end of Donaldson Drive and around the bridge where the Wilson River Loop crosses the river. The Trask takes some hunting but perhaps the best spot for starters is at the lower takeout just east of Hwy 101 on the Trask River road.

Sounds like you've got a lot of experience. Where have you been doing all your fishing? What's been your most productive method there? What's your most memorable fish?

Pete, thanks for the reply to my message. Yeah, I have been fishing down at the coast since around 1982 when I was a sophomore in high school... I am pretty much a drift fisherperson using your standard corkies/yarn... I got out of fishing for a bit but am starting to get pretty enthused about it again. To be honest I have forgotten where some of the holes were that I used to fish and some are no longer accessible due to private property. Sucks.

My most memorable day was probably around 1988 I think, and a friend and I were on the Trask at a certain hole we stumbled across.. I guess the planets, stars, tides, rain, fish, the gods, and anything else that could be aligned were aligned that day... we just happend to be at the right hole at the right time. It started to rain really hard and we could visibly start to see the river start rising...soon after we just started to get strike after strike of the brightest chinook I have ever seen down there.. I alone caught and released 9 chinook with every fish being bright and beautiful.. I kept 2 beautiful hens and went home with the most sore arm I had ever had... I know that fisherpeople have a tendancy to stretch the truth but I assure you this story is the truth. I will never forget it and have been trying to duplicate it ever since.. we were just tossing your typical red corky and white yarn and drifted it on down..

well I have written way to much so when I get back tomorrow from the coast I will let everyone know how I did.

Yes, welcome aboard. Nice story Sculpin. I'm still looking for one of days myself. If you find another one of those days soon, please drop me a line, I promise not tell a soul.

I agree with Pete, the lower Wilson should be an excellent place to fish. Judging by the tides, the very late afternoon might be your better fishing.

I can see already your new moniker is going to be a hit, literally speaking of course.

Best of luck and looking forward to reading another story soon.
