Wind at The Fishery???
Going up to fish at The Fishery in the morning. Looked at the weather forecast on Yahoo Weather for Cascade Locks. I figure that is probably the closest. The forecast tomorrow is for 25 to 35 mph east winds and gusty. I am sure they post the worst case scenario.
I have never fished up there in a wind like that. How is it when the wind is really blowing? Are there areas more protected when you get wind like that? I usually fish down around Horsetail Falls on the Washington side. The west wind is what puts the big chop on the water. At least if it blows from the east, it is going the right direction. Is there anything a person should watch for up there in the strong winds? I will be in a 19’ North River. The wife is going so I gotta have the top on. I know not to skimp on the amount of anchor rope I let out as there will be the extra strain from the wind. I want it to hold. Anything else?
Thanks everyone
I have never fished up there in that kin

Re: Wind at The Fishery???
my rule of thumb,, is if they predict anything over 20 mph east or west you better stay hame and do some yard work!!.. 25 and over makes for a misurable day fishing...you cant even see any bites and the boat ride can be frightning

Re: Wind at The Fishery???
If you're thinking of taking your wife, consider this one question. If it gets really masty out there on the water, she might never go fishing with you again. As for me, I'd kind of like it if my wife would fish with me in the boat.
I had a day where we took 5 minutes boating to the spot and an hour to get back. It was that rough! - Lucky for me we was in a bigger boat then mine.
Just a thought. You might want to just sleep in. and then take her out for a nice brunch, and then maybe...

Re: Wind at The Fishery???
Went out Sun 11/18 with Birdhunter. We got some fish but could have done better with less wind, hard to detect bites. Finally blown off our anchor at about noon and had trouble reseting. Definitly would have fished closer to home if I had known the wind would be so strong. Does anyone have a favorite link for Gorge wind conditions? Looking for a good current weather conditions site close to the fishery.

Re: Wind at The Fishery???
This is the link I use:
http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/Ca...s_OR_US_f.html
If someone has one better, please post it.
We did go out on Sunday. It was windy. Really started to pick up around 9:30 or 10:00. Stuck it out til about 11:00. We tried our usuall hole. We were getting tossed around pretty good. We ended up down by Horsetail Falls on the Oregon side. A bit more protected from the wind. Only found shakers. Saw one keeper caught near us.

Re: Wind at The Fishery???
Here's a tip. If you are going to have a big east wind in the gorge, fish downstream of Kelly Point on the Columbia. The east wind dies as it gets to Sauvie Is. You won't find many experienced island duck hunters getting excited about an east wind, cause it just never makes it that far, as a matter of fact it is as smooth as glass down there. On Sunday I was driving across the windy St Johns bridge and looked downstream and noticed the water was calm at the head of the Mult Channel.

Re: Wind at The Fishery???
Current conditions are available by using ODOTS Region 4 road cams... It will show you the current wind speeds on 1-84 at Cascade locks anyway. No forecasts but does give you the current conditions

Windsurfers know what the wind is doing. Check out this site:
http://www.iwindsurf.com/windandwhere.iws
Real time wind reports almost anywhere. You have to pay to get some locations but others are free.
