Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
Well, how was the fishing? I heard a buddy of mine on the Trask touched or saw nothing, the river color was good along with the level. Lets hear some hopefully good reports. Thanks, Kim

Re: Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
Logger's bridge to 101 on the Kilchis today was like the LA Freeway. Saw a few fish caught. We got two Chums and broke off a Chinook. Water looked great but not many fish. River is dropping fast. The Wilson should be fishable tomorrow and ideal on Monday.

Re: Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
Kim, try to stay away from the loggers bridge. We went and hit some holes futher up the river and hooked 5 fish and landed 3. Bobber and eggs on all of them. Two bucks and 1 hen. All were chrome and best of all no people where we were. Had many more bobber downs, but can't win all the time. From the sounds of it, the hot spot at the bridge wasn't so hot.

Drifted from Vanderzanden's to Mills Bridge on the Wilson River today and did not touch a fish. Saw one boat catch a dark chinook that they released and a bright coho that they also released. Water conditions were near perfect. Where are they?

Re: Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
Drifted form Mills Bridge to Sollie Smith. Saw 1 fish caught and heard of two others. Talked to a bankie that said I was the 25th boat that went by and he only heard of two fish (the same two I knew about). Heard of 1 other fish at the take-out.
The river is dropping and clearing and is in very good fishing condition. There is no reason why there are not more fish around, I don't understand it.

Re: Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
Hey Dan,
Skipped salmon and went sturgeon fishing instead, no keepers but plenty of action to keep us interested. Don't think I can up sick tomorrow, so I'll have to wait till this weekend. I'll get those oars back to you soon.
Thanks,
Chris

went to the kilchis today and hooked a couple of chums, and broke off a nook. Not good, way to many people for not so many fish. The boats that went bye only hooked a couple chums.

Re: Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
My story is the same as everyone elses. Drifted Mills to Sollie and nada, nothin, zip, zero, zilch.
Any wizened fisherpersons have a clue why this is? Did the high water send them way way up river?
Is the run late? Trask seemed like it had a good early season run. Where is the Wilson's?

Re: Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
Although discouraging, it's a relief to hear others did not do well either. Thought it was just me!
Fished the upper Wilson Sunday from midriver up to Jones Creek area, nothing! Good holes that have produced before, excellent water conditions for running fish, never touched a thing or saw/heard of any caught. Beats me...flood of 96 payback? Rains too late? But should be fish in lower river.
Time to start sharpening steelhead hooks and get sturgeon gear ready.

Re: Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
Quick Fish, I was in the boat that you saw with the dark chinook and the bright silver. On the first pass through that hole we had a ferocious, but brief, takedown, on the kwikfish, then got the two drifting eggs. Had two other legit takedowns pulling kwikfish, but for some reason, couldn't get them to stick. We were using brand new Gami's, and tried to let them take it. Don't know what the problem was. Water looked too good for a change to have so many boats catching so few fish.

Re: Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
Maybe the 18' swells and breakers over the bar at Tillamook had something to do with it. Salmon don't like to cross the bar with the sand roiling through the water. I don't know, just guessing.

Re: Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
I floated the Trask on Sunday
We played bumper boats and never touched a fish. Only heard of a couple fish, and it was not uncommon to see 3 to 5 boats at all times.
Several of the places I like to fish already had boats in them when I got there.
It is not the trip I expected :depressed:

Re: Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
Well Quickfish and Blackdog, I guess IFish had that hole on the Wilson well covered. I came through as Blackdog was fighting that nook. Did catch a nice buck in the hole below the Mine Field. I had two takedowns in the hole only one stuck. Only bites of the day.

Re: Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
I fished with Pete yesterday and even though we didn't land a fish, what we saw was encouraging. The bar was flat or nearly flat most of the day with 2 to 3 foot wind waves outside. We fished outside along the south jetty for awhile and perhaps left a little early with the one fish caught after we left. Except the wind and short chop made trolling less then ideal.
We did lose some valuable fishing time. Pete was a good samaritan helping a stranded boater dead in the water (DIW). Towed the boat back to Garabaldi against the current from Bay City. I just know that cost our fish since we saw a fish landed as we towed on past.
Keep your fingers crossed, the runs not over yet.
Gregg

Re: Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
Fished the Wilson Sun afternoon. Did not launch till about 2:00 PM to let water and boats go down. Had two bites and caught this fish. Not a great day, water still a little high and lots of color, fish were moving all afternoon. East wind about 20 did not help much.

Re: Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
With the rain that we got last night and this morning, the Wilson never did get into great shape. BUT.....The bite was much better today(monday) than yesterday. Most boats that knew what they were doing got fish, some punched out. Tomorrow and Wens should be good..........

Re: Looking for a north coast river salmon report?
I fished lower TBay Sunday. There were maybe a dozen boats, but there were fish caught! I heard of one fish caught outside, and saw maybe a half dozen in the Ghost Hole ... big fish .... bright fish ... no color on these babies! The bite followed the clean ocean water up the bay. Don't know if it will last long with the rain this week. I had my bait stripped twice and ended up with nothing, but it sounds better than what was going on in most of the rivers.
