Default Cowlitz Smelt Report Saturday 2/14 2:30PM

Slooowwwerrr!!!

Definately more smelt dipper's and seagulls than smelt today.

Talked to three guy's that drove all the way from Salem and they saw 3 people leave without any and one guy that had about a dozen.
Told them they should read ifish and turns out that one of them does.
Guess he didn't read my report.

I would wait for any of you that have any kind of drive!

The hot ticket for lucky ones today was Amerman's smelt cure trolled behind a BW-29 diver.

Might wait another week as the rumors are flowing that WDFW will stock the Cow and Lewis with one million smelt smolt.
Just joking there but the report is accurate.

good report Dano,
Have to second that report 2:24pm.
just returned from Gearhart Gardens, Carnival Market, Rocky Point, and Camelot...200+ dippers, maybe 50 smelt dipped in total that I witnessed.

I did see 1 promosing area..hwy 4 rocky point(mile marker 4)
park at dike access and walk up river around the bend a 1/4 mile or better. Saw some limits taken there but it took 2 hrs to get them. All males.

Lots of gulls and lots of Big Dog sealions..Very Very few Smelt!!

Well, I guess I'll bump it as someone was still asking for a smelt report.

I was in Bob's yesterday having a few reels filled. The phone rang constantly and every call was a request for a smelt report. Those guys must go nuts saying the same thing over and over. They should come up with the "Smelt Hot Line" with a recording of the info.

Kudos to the Bob's guys for patiently giving people the latest scoop.

You're correct Steve!

I was working at Bob's helping out in my "off-season" about 5 years ago or so when the smelt finally made there appearance again and it was insane with all the non-stop telephone calls.
You simply couldn't get anything done and I think Bob was paying me to be a full-time telephone answerer.

Good suggestion and I will pass that onto Bob and Brad.
The receptionist could answer; "tackle or smelt info" and push the smelt button.

Hey there Dano, I was one of the guy's from Salem that you talked to. We stayed until around 5pm (3 hours worth of dipping around 15 smelt)... We had a good time still. Seemed to be one hot spot about 10 feet below us where one guy was pulling them out quite consistantely. The guy in the white sweatshirt and blue hat had the hot spot if you can call it that...

Other than that one spot I didn't see anybody else doing worth a hoot....

I'll be darn!

Small world thanks to ifish!

Of course we can't give all our zipperlip "holes" away, but we can try!

Good meeting you and I will try and post up-to-date reports as i have been doing to save many of you a somewhat wasted trip!

Like I told you, I will be making another coastal trip soon , but will try to keep you all informed until then!

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">

Was he using the new Amerman's "smelt cure"?

A friend of mine from Clackamas said he was there last weekend and it was hot but there was all these guy's from Continental, Alaska, and United and that is why they called it the "pilot run"!

He's awaiting the "commuter's run"!

Thanks!
