Default BOAT RESTORATION...HELP

this is my first time post as an ifish member and won't give a long resume, but have fished most all Oregon waters in the last 25 years and have yet to see or hook 1/2 the fish I'm looking forward to casting to. My bro got me hooked on Ifish and it is by far the best site I have seen since I sat down in front of this machine. I first want to say that I met Jennie at the swap meet (had a great time! - I was the one watching the UofO football game) and really saw how genuine and dedicated Jen and her site is. My post concerns a rare and strange jet boat that my brother and I bought. It's a 20 ft Valco. It's a deep vee (northwest fisher design) cuddy cabin, high freeboard - actually talked to the 85 year old boat builder in Calif who built these (he said not many made). The question concerns the single stage Berkley jet pump. As an outboard guy, the only things for sure that I have learned is that they are not made anymore, of course, and i know, "INEFFICIENT", etc. What I want to know is..... is there anyone out there that knows Berkely Jet Pumps and can give me some tips (maintenance, service tips, parts availability, etc?????) I have had little luck....
Thanks for any advice...

Welcome to the board zigzag, nice to have you part of our community. You know this is a two way street, for every question you ask, you have to give the location to one of your secret fishing holes, no need to reply to the entire board, just send them my way over email. Alright, just having a little fun, trying to get you warmed up to what's ahead of you.

For the pump question, I don't have an answer. There are a number of boat and repair shops around. The Berkley jet pumps were very popular back in the late 70's/80's, has to be parts and knowledge out there somewhere. If I find anything, I'll let you know.

best of luck,

Gregg

I realize it is a little commute for you but Jim Jenkins in Stayton is an awesome mechanic and I haven't seen a boat problem he couldn't fix yet. His number is (503)-769-0565.

I have an old Valco too with a jet pump that Jim just rebuilt. I haven't had a chance to try it out since the rebuild but I've had tons of work done by Jim and he does great work and stands behind it. He's very affordable too. Older equipment is his specialty.

Good luck and good fishin.
