yamaha or suzuki outboards
I'm looking at a new boat and I have the option of either putting yamaha or suzuki power (main and kicker). The suzuki (main) currently has the 6 year warranty offered with it. I know very little about the suzuki's. Any replies (pm if you prefer) would be greatley appreciated.
Thanks

Yamaha may cost you a little more money but both brands are good motors. I would spend the money to get the Yamaha kicker If you look out on the rivers you will see that most new boats have a Yamaha T 8hp on them

Re: yamaha or suzuki outboards
I've got a Suzi 225 on my MM (boat is for sale though due to move). I had the same choice when I bought the boat and don't regret the decision. They are a great motor and would buy another one in a heartbeat. Not sure what size you are looking at, but the specs on just about all sizes are impressive to compare. Very quiet engine at idle and wot is a nice dull roar. Maintenance is a snap. Unless you really, really care about having the same color on the back... go with the Yami T8 kicker (it is the gold standard kicker for sure).

I think for overall (including resale) Yamaha would be my choice. Look into the 6 year warrenty the Yami's are offering right now. Also, listen to them both at WOT throttle in comparible boats. All 4 strokers are quiet at low RPM's, all but Honda's anyway. Honda's seem to make a bit more noise at idle.

No hijack intended but I finally see Honda finally mentioned. Is there a reason for that? Have not heard much bad about them and hear the economy is great.

Re: yamaha or suzuki outboards
I have Yamahas on my boat right now. At the time of purchase,Suzuki's 150 was brand new on the market and I didn't want to be a Guinea Pig,or I would have looked harder at them.
Right now,I'd buy whichever has a better servicing dealer close to you.
Suzukis are a top notch engine for sure.

Re: yamaha or suzuki outboards
I have an 03 Suzuki DF140 that has 1200 hours. I have replaced the impeller which looked just like the one I put in it-no wear. I change fluids and plugs and filter. I run synthetic oil. The dealer tells me it should run for 3000 hours with proper care. My kicker is a 9.9 Suzuki.
My only problem is I would like to get a DF175 and it makes no sense to sell the motor I have when its enough power and will run forever for most peoples use.I run full throttle too much with this 140 and could back off 1000 rpms with a 175.
Suzies are the best bang for your dollar and maybe the best anyway you cut it. I have never had a problem of any type.

Re: yamaha or suzuki outboards
Another aspect is Suzi's weigh less. I have had a 40 with no problems and now have twin 140's wich run great. Best friend swears by Yami's and I have put my life in his hands many times offshore. Both are great.

Re: yamaha or suzuki outboards
I have a Yamaha 80 Jet (115 powerhead), and Yamaha T-8. Last year at Bouy 10 we fished for 3 days sunlight to late afternoon, and only used 10 gallons of gas. I came real close to going with the Suzuki 140, because it only weighed 9 lbs more than the Yamaha 115. Ended up with the 80 because it maxed the HP requirements for the hull when using a tiller.

The really funny thing is that the suzuki 140 weighs less than their 115. According to the suzuki website the DF140TX (25" shaft) weighs 410 pounds while the DF115TX (25" shaft) weighs 427 pounds. More horsepower and less weight.
