Re: no turkey talk yet!
Been hearing birds gobbling at daylight the last couple weekends, and saw a herd of hoodlums(jakes) strutting and fighting one morning.

Thanks CR,
I'll watch out for him.

I'm ready and waiting.
First the kids get their weekend, and then it's my turn.
I have to fit some time in for Bear hunting too.

EVERYONE hunts over there. You can bet every guy with a shotgun and some camo who reads hunting and fishing news will be there.

Re: no turkey talk yet!
as long as you stay out of the WMA you won't run into too many other people. having private land is a big plus if thats an option. That area gets a LOT of press in local magazines and can get crowded early in the season because its only 2hrs from portland.

I ended up looking out for CH. He didn't miss is brother-in-law's birthday party.
Saw some tracks and a couple of feathers. Still lots of snow, where I want to hunt, plenty of melting time.

Was in pine grove scouting all weekend and didnt see or hear anything gobblin there or on the white river game management area. we hiked the ridge to the south of pine grove and found sign but no birds and nothing but deer in white river area. we did get snow friday night so not sure if that turned them off. i know they are there just hope they pop out in a month real good.

Since they are still flocked up they can be hard to find. It wont be long and they will start splitting up and heading for their nesting and breeding areas. I sure hope we dont have an unusually wet spring this year.

Re: no turkey talk yet!
sittin out on my deck grillin backstrap (running depressingly low on wild game) heard the first gobble's of the year come from across the river. left the steaks on to burn, ran inside to get a call. that guy would gobble to anything i threw at him. if there hadn't been a river between us i believe he would've come kicked my butt for those steaks! goin scouting this weekend. man i cant wait for april 15!

Re: no turkey talk yet!
They have been gobbly like crazy for the last 10 days or so in White River. Tons of birds this year. We have seen groups of 150+ birds together over the last few months. Pretty cool to see turkeys take up a whole hill side.
