Default Razor Clamorama

Who's going? Do ya want to get together on the beach for some brew and grub? I will be leaving the Hillsboro area at 3:00 for the 7:15 lowtide. Got a couple of newbies going, and gotta show'em how the clam gun shuffle works....

Ray and John are ya goin' I'm not worried about the logs. The waves usually are anklebiters and I just follow the tide down the beach.

Good luck to all razor clammers. may your show's be large and your clams whole.

My clam gun is cocked, locked and ready to rock.
Got extra mantles for the lanntern and a margirita bucket just beggin to go to the beach  .

Drifty is supposed to get in touch with me to let me know if he is coming.

Anybody know of a way to stake a lantern so ya can dig on your own?

I've only been a couple of times and see it as a team effort. Last time out I was some folks clamming all by there selves (poor guys). They ha a pole of some kind that they used to find shows, then they used it to hold the lantern by sticking it in the sand, freeing them up to dig.

Maybe we could come up with something.

Anybody with info let me know please .

We should be at Jacks store in Long Beach by 5:00 Tonight. We are going out 26 and heading up through Seaside. If you want to Dig as A team or in the same area let me know by email or post here. We could also meet at the Chinook store for lisences.

Let me know

Alright, Jacks store in long beach it is at 5 or so. I plan on rolling out about 3 for the beach. BTW aren't there some road closures due to slides on 101? I'm going through Longview.

I'll have to throw a chainsaw in the rig as well as the other stuff. Maybe we can bag a fin clipped 40' log or two!!!

This reminds me of the first mountain lake trip of the year. Bring a chainsaw so you can clear the deadfalls off the road.

Is digging razor clams considered fishing? I'd hate to waste the board on non fishing related topics.....

Nah, Ifish folks getting together and having fun is all good. See ya there.

BTW, don't waste your money on a clam gun. I can show you how to make 3 of them for very little money and a trip to Lowes or Home Depot. < $15 for 3, what a deal.

Well folks I will be there too. I started my thread and didn't notice this one burried down about 20 or so topics. It has now come alive.

Drifty I hope you make it. It will truly be a clamorama. Love2fish has been limiting out 3 hours befor the low.

Here is an idea. I will bring my talkabout radio for coordination etc. I will use channel 10 code 1. just remember highway 101. Anyone else have talkabouts?

Mr Fisherman. I will go to The Home Depot and see what I can come up with.

See ya all there.

Ok here's a parts list.

(1) 12' x 4" pvc drain pipe, no holes. It's the thin stuff.
(1) 12' x 1" schedule 80 pvc, for the handles
(6) 1/4-20 x 1-1/2" stainless hex head bolts.
(12) 1/4" flat washers
(6) 1/4-20 nylon insert locking nuts, 'Nylock'
(3) 4" PVC pipe caps
(1) can of PVC cleaner
(1) can of PVC purple primer
(1) can of PVC cement
(1) tube of silicone sealer

Cut the 4" pipe in three 4' sections. Cut the 1" pipe in three 1' sections. Drill and bolt the 1" pipe to the pipe caps. Use a washer on both sides and the nuts go on the inside of the cap. Seal the bolt holes with the silicone sealer inside and out. Drill a 1/4" hole in the cap where your thumb can reach it when you hold the handle. Glue the cap on the end of a 4' section of the 4" pipe.
You can 'sharpen' the business end of the gun with a file but its not really necessary.

Wa la, its a clam gun! No wait, 3 clam guns! These work on sand shrimp too.

You can get the pipe and bolts for $15. Most of you will already have the rest of the stuff just laying around.

Note: the gun must be 4" diameter to be legal.

OK, lets meet at the store on the right at Chinook. About 5pm. BTW try to buy your license at Freddies off Millplain before you get near the beach. Its $8.75 for a two day for out of state. The line at the stores on the beach is 1/2 hour minimum.

We'll be clamming north of the beach access 6 miles north of Long beach, Ocean park I think its called. The ramp onto the beach is paved and easy for non 4x4 cars. Everybody has to have their own container for those of you doing the family dig.

See you there.

The Chinook country store has lisences for everyone. They preprint the ones you need I think its 9$ for the 2 day and its open tomorrow also. The line is not usually that bad but 5-10 minutes is the average.

Gear required:

Lantern

Pounder that is long enough to stand up with. a good sized stick or handle of the shovel is adequate but it is a pain if you have to hunch over tappeing the sand every 10 seconds.

bucket or bag for your clams.

shovel or clam gun

Waders or hip boots (if ya wanna keep dry)

Change of clothes

Hey clammers,
Hope you keep an eye out for those logs that are going to be rolling in on those beaches  especially if you are going to be out near dark. Wouldnt like to loose any ifishers out there!

Pilar, with your chainsaw, you might just have your hands full from what rolls in off the ocean!

Wow! easy limits for all. No logs either. You really did not need to go near the water. We found shows 200ft up the beach. The clams were pretty big with 5 and 6 inchers common.

The best part is the small ones. Where the tide cut away the sand there were thousands of 3/4" clams.

There was even a light show with the occassional meteor blazing overhead.

We got five limits in two days out at Grayland. The team effort was the key. Wifey held the lantern, I dug, and my son filled the holes in. My arms are tired, and I just finished packaging up the last of the clams.

P.S. Pilar, they call them shellFISH, and they live in the water, so my guess is that they count.

I really dig clams! Had a gteat time at the beach too!
Somebody loose a wader boot? Funny finding one boot was hoping to see some dude or dudette limping around with a bag of clams, shovel,& lantern looking for a boot.
I am so sorry I laughed so hard at your loss.
I left it back at the beach; hoping it would be found.
I love clams like homer simpson like doughnuts
