OHA Youth Turkey Hunting Clinic April 5, 2008 - FULL!!
Have you guys (and gals ) heard about this event? I have been involved for a couple years and it is a great way to introduce kids to turkey hunting - parents too.
This year, they will be giving away 3 youth turkey hunts. PLUS: a bunch of other prizes too. I got a couple youth bows donated to add to the list as well.
Here is the info: You can pre-register at oregonyouthturkeyhunt.com

Where will this take place. Please feel free to PM the answer since it seems like they they don't want it to be general knowledge. Also, if my 17 year old attends does she have to have an adult with her?

They usually have one up near the White River Wildlife Area's headquarters west of Tygh Valley. Might be another one down south in the Roseburg area also?

Sending this back ttt!
IFISHers, this is a quality event that is both educational and fun for your kids - even if you've never considered turkey hunting before. The kids learn about the turkey's life cycle and habitat then get to try their hand at different kinds of calling. They also get to participate in a "live fire" shotgun patterning exercise with youth model 20 ga Remington shotguns in a safe environment with a one-on-one coach. On top of all that the volunteers are friendly, lunch is terrific and it's a great opportunity to get out to the woods in early spring.

Re: OHA Youth Turkey Hunting Clinic April 5, 2008
I spoke with organizers of the event and they mentioned that they have 25 kids and parents registered already. Currently stocking up on some really nice give aways for the kids and parents. 3 turkey hunts on private propety for the youth weekend is a pretty good incentive to show up.
There will be a bunch of us stoking the campfire on Friday night. Pretty sure we will be BBQ-ing some elk meat too.

Re: OHA Youth Turkey Hunting Clinic April 5, 2008
Got a few more kids signed up. This is going to be a HUGE turnout once again.
Last year before the seminars started up, we took a handful of kids and parents out to a super secret spot and called in some birds for them to see. It was quite exciting to see the grins on their faces as the toms gobbled through the canyon.
Hope to catch up with some of you guys and gals at the big event. Only three weeks from now.

Excellent news BB!
I'll be bringing plenty of backup so 50 kids should be no problem - we've put 140 through in a day before at Portland Gun Club

Re: OHA Youth Turkey Hunting Clinic April 5, 2008 - FULL!!
Just like to take the opportunity to thank Beardbuster for his on-the-ground turkey calling scenarios at the Youth Turkey Clinic yesterday; they were very informative.
And to CL and crew at the shotgun sight-in area; my kid managed to make a kill shot on the turkey target at 15 yards; it was the first time he had ever fired a shotgun!
I saw a lot of kids that were excited about the opportunity to go after their first turkey next weekend; great job everybody!

A great day all-in-all Loper! About 60 kids participating and more than 160 people in attendance overall. Kudos needs to go around to all the volunteers that spent a Saturday helping out, all the parents that took time to bring the kids and the kids themselves for being such interested participants. I wish there was one of these held somewhere every month!
