PLEASE READ LETTER BELOW:
From Arnold V. Strong
Salem resident and Army National Guard officer:
Dear Oregon friends and neighbors,
In whatever way possible, I am hoping that you can assist me in getting broad awareness, participation and support of an event on Sunday that will directly affect the way news gets reported about Oregon National Guard members from Salem that are currently serving overseas in Iraq.
Tim King is a regional reporter that used to work as the Salem bureau photojournalist for KATU. He now has his own company
Salem-News.com that is focused on the Willamette Valley. Being a former Marine with strong relationships in the Oregon Guard, he is planning to deploy to cover stories about our Soldiers in Iraq.
Last year, he joined us in Afghanistan for a little over a month and made some extraordinary stories of our work there with the 41st Brigade. He is now in the final stages of preparation for his trip to visit the 224th and 234th Engineers, the 115th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment and A Company, 641 Aviation Regiment, all of which are headquartered in Salem, Oregon during peacetime.
As he is self-financing all of his required expenses, Tim and his wife and business partner Bonnie King are going to host a fund-raiser for his trip at the
Eola Hills Winery in Rickreall on Sunday March 9th from 12:30 to 3:00. While the focus of the event is fund-raising and he hopes to solicit some in-kind and direct financial assistance toward executing his trip, the event itself is a brunch in the Oregon Wine Country.
I hope that you will understand the importance of this mission and will participate and donate whatever you can to support Tim on his journey. Whether in-kind donations, direct financial donations, or partnership opportunities with
Salem-News.com, I am sure that this Sunday's brunch will bring tremendous support for soldiers deployed far from home, and families here in Salem that will eagerly read news about their fathers, mothers, sisters and brothers defending our freedoms in Iraq.
All of us appreciate anything you can do. Specifically, I hope you will give your support to this Salem entrepreneur and selfless video and web journalist as he goes in harm's way to bring us stories from the war to all of us here in Salem. Tim and Bonnie are patriots that are doing some extraordinary work in getting stories told about our Oregon National Guard soldiers. Can you help as well?

Most Sincerely,
