Default Randy Pausch on living

This is so awesome! Please listen and watch and really think about it!

I see so many parallels of my childhood, here, and my life, now.
Not that I'm' an expert in what he says or thinks, but I just so agree with so many of the things he says!

A year or so ago, my surgeon looked at my CT scan and said to me, "Jennie, if travel is what you want, you should do that, now. You know, I haven't yet, and I need to! I really need to! But, somehow I don't believe that this is the end of my life, yet. I'm too busy living! I feel like I "travel" every day! Maybe not to a new land, but to new places in my heart.

Everyone is going to die. We could all be hit by a car, this afternoon. But, knowing what you face, what you are probably going to die of is a little different. It's like knowing the type of car and the license plate number of the car that's going to hit you.

I really enjoyed this speech! He's full of laughter and fun, still and I hope to always be like that, to the very end!

Things I learned from this video that hit home:

How to properly apologize! (And do it often!)

1. I'm sorry
2. It's my fault.
3. How do I make it right?

On people that you don't care for:
No one is pure evil.
Be patient with them and the good will come out.

I am so guilty of this on ifish. I think many of us are. We see the written word, and immediately form an opinion and sometimes it's not a good one. But, if you wait, and hold off on that opinion, you'll see the good in that person in his writing! And, if you later meet that person, I'll almost guarantee you that you'll like them much better than in writing!!!

Always show gratitude. Always... for each experience!

When the chips are down, don't complain! Keep playing the game and play hard!

And lastly, and I believe this from my life, and my dreams...

If you live right, your dreams will come to you.

A friend forwarded me the link to this clip and I just watched it last night. While this is a difficult subject given his situation, it is the message we all wish we could live and provide to others. We tend to make life so complicated, and this reminder is needed to get us back on track.

Thanks Jennie, S

I ended up reading the entire transcript of the speech in a PDF. I found it to be an excellent dissertation on how to conduct oneself in life. Some of it resonates with my life, some doesn't, but on the whole I found reading it to be a worthwhile use of my time.

I was discussing it with a friend of mine and her comment was: doesn't it seem like there's a reason why he accomplished so much in such a short time given that his medical condition is what it is now? It certainly does give one pause, doesn't it?

Yes, the reason is that Oprah and all media will exploit anyone and anybody for money and ratings. If you watch the gleam in her eye you can clearly see the dollar signs.

Thousands of people battle cancer and other illness each day. Like my father, last week he died silently in his sleep. He was a warrior and a great man, but I doubt Oprah really would give him the time of day as there was nothing in it for her.

Randy Pausch gives a great message and I applaud his courage and strength. But, I believe that his message should have been delivered through a public service or other means... just my opinion.

I am however thankful that his message did get out.

Mr. Pausch passed this morning...for those that haven't, take a few minutes to hear his "Last Lecture." If you don't get something out of it, you may want to check your own pulse.

Randy Pausch was a good human being, but to me his message seemed empty.
