Looking for waders for daughter
I have a 9 yr old who needs some waders. What is out there for kids and does anyone have a used set they want to sell?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Looking for waders for daughter
Personally, I'd get my 9 year old daughter some rubber knee boots and not let her go in any farther than her ankles. Oh, and she'd be wearing a life jacket too.

Not sure, but I think Cabela's has kids waders.

Re: Looking for waders for daughter
Hey lives,
I agree with sjp...and then this summer and the next few summers practice crossing rivers with her until she gets good. I have done this with all of my kids it is a progressive thing but they gain respect of what water and slippery rocks can do.

Re: Looking for waders for daughter
You know, I just re-read my post and don’t see where I asked for advice about if I should buy waders. I appreciate you concern, but I don’t plan on putting her in the river and anytime she is in the boat, she has a life jacket on. I happen to have a small pond that we sometimes shoot ducks out of.

Re: Looking for waders for daughter
Sorry lives to fish, I had visions of my 10 year old daughter (all 75 lbs of her) standing at the edge of the Clack inching deeper and deeper.

Re: Looking for waders for daughter
Why don't you people just throw your kids in and let them learn to swim?    j/k
I second the Hodgman's suggestion, and especially with the holidays coming up they'll more than likely be on sale. I hit a member's sale up at Sportco and picked up 3 pairs of 3mm Hodgman's for around $35 a piece. They've seen many miles in more way than one
You may can order directly from their website if your local tackle place doesn't have them.
They'll be packed in the suitcase on Monday for my pond excursions in the upcoming weeks because they're not too thick where I can't move around and they're nice and toasty.....when they're not wet.

Re: Looking for waders for daughter
OOPS.....Sorry......For some reason my girls only went duck hunting with me once each...maybe cuz these are the days I like to go duck huntin...nasty gnarly yucky.....
Have you tried calling Cabelas and asking for their Hip Wader specialist...yes they will have one...I have always found their specialist to be very helpful and knowledgable.
Sorry Again!

Re: Looking for waders for daughter
you mentioned maybe wanting to get a used set. Ebay has a ton of waders, and sometimes they have a lot of womens waders for cheap. just punch in "waders" into the search button and you should pull up quite a few. I bought my wifes wading boots on there. New pair of cabelas boots for $25. Hope that helps

Re: Looking for waders for daughter
I was looking for my 10 yr old and found a couple places with kids sizes... Tillamook Sporting Goods had them for $29.99 I believe it was, and at Fishermans Marine (Delta Park) I think they were $34.99...

Re: Looking for waders for daughter
Lives_to_fish, I know Hodgemans sells kids size waders, with the holidays coming up I bet gijoes or fishermans has them. Have her try them on, I think Holdgmans run small. Good luck, RW

Re: Looking for waders for daughter
Just bought a set for my sisters son and he is 8 years old and on the small side. A set of womens extra extra small from fishermans worked just great. They come up to about his armpits and my wife had to modify the shoulder straps to work (shorten them). Also, I have done this for my daughter as well and found that the stocking foot waders seem to work better. Just slap a really big pair of cheap wal-mart highking boots on them and their all set. I have been told that kids sometimes have trouble with the boot foots (tearing the boots loose from the waders and the boots beeing to heavy and cumbersome for them to walk well in the water. Good luck on your search.

Re: Looking for waders for daughter
What about me? I need some custom waders badly!
I have long legs and really long skinny feet. (11 AAAA)
So, if I get a mans size, for feet length, they are all really wide and sloppy. I think that is partially why I can't wade very well. My feet just fall all over inside these wide boots.
Then there is the problem of the body fitting for a man and not a woman.
Does any company make narrow mens sizes in boots, and custom womens waders?
I know... I'm asking too much, but it would be a dream come true!
I'm SO tired of wearing mens waders that don't fit well...
I want to be comfortable the whole day, on a long day on the river.

Re: Looking for waders for daughter
And now the rest of the story!
I ended up buying the youth, stocking foot waders from Cabelas for $49.99
I called Fishermans and they quoted me $69.99 for the Hodgman youth sizes.
Not really interested in what G.I. Joes has, as they never cease to disappoint me.
Thanks for the help.
