UPDATE: Ifish Predator Hunt
Hello!
As you know, a number of reports on the conditions at our campsite have been posted. It appears we will have no shortage of SNOW! That's good and bad, depending on your preparations.
I would like to suggest that you pack along a shovel, (a snow shovel would be perfect) and a few extra pieces of firewood. If everyone brings a little wood, we can all enjoy a campfire without too much cutting.
ATV's are WELCOME, but BE SURE you have the "Off Road" sticker required for travel on public or FS Roads. While we do not expect a major snow event, be sure to check the HUNTING FORUM before you leave in case there are some last minute changes due to weather, etc. Last year was real "iffy" and some folks opted to stay home; a wise decision. I will try to update the Thread if it becomes necessary.
Remember! Each participant is responsible for their own camp, food, and gear. Also, if you are need of a "partner" in order to learn more about predator hunting, please let Rusty, Huntn'Fish, or Rank Amateur know so that we can pair you up with an experienced hunter.
Rusty: John
Huntn'fish: Mike
Rank Amateur: Dale
Looking forward to meeting you on Friday or Saturday.
LATE BREAKING NEWS:
Some iFish members have just repoted in from their weekend activities in our area and it does appears there will be significant amounts of snow in and around our campsite. This underscores the need to be prepared in the event we get additional snow this weekend. Bring your shovels and firewood.
John Brody

Re: UPDATE: Ifish Predator Hunt
I read Chug's post on the "sticky" thread and am a bit confused. Looking at the pine mountain web cam, and talking with my buddy in Bend (who was just out to the range on Hwy 20), I am wondering how much snow is really on the ground. Pine Mtn observatory is high in elevation and it looks like it has less than 5" of snow while Chug reported 17" off road.
In anycase, Frederick's Butte Road is virtually clear I am told. If we get reports of high winds. Might want to consider bag it, the wind can howl out there so bad that it's virtually impossible to call effectively. Just my experience.
We'll be swinging in on Saturday evening regardless (maybe Fri):

Re: UPDATE: Ifish Predator Hunt
Had two different buddies out playing two weekends ago in that area. Both almost got stuck and they were prepared for the conditions. I am sure some has melted/evaporated but drifts were the problem. Clear sailing and then a 3-4' drift over the road making it impassable.

Re: UPDATE: Ifish Predator Hunt
If the main roads are clear (Fredrick's butte, Hwy 20) then we should be fine just may require a little more walking then was planed does anyone know a place to rent snow shoes? also I was also confused by Chugs report here is the road cam from hwy 20 and 395 a little east and you can see it does not look to bad
Also Pine mountain Observatory does not look like there is 18 inch of snow and as high as it is there should be more. Chug you got any pics from your trip this weekend we can see rp

Re: UPDATE: Ifish Predator Hunt
I shot one photo, from camp out wards.. Might have more from buddies. They are on home puter.
The main road in is clear.. gravel.. Far as I went was second cattle guard, drove down fence line 100 yards, stuck. But, expected to get stuck Self extract.. done.
IN around the tree's have some dirt, out in open snow... Its melting fast.. Was a pain to walk on in daylight hours. Night time freeze.. easy walking on top.
we camped about mile from top cattle guard. 20 yards off road, If you find a Fire ring.. that was camp.
Another camp, down lower.. 5 Trucks 4 tents.. Popular area.. busy road in daylight hours.. shesh.
If no major weather hits.. should be okay... Snow shoes would be dandy.

Re: UPDATE: Ifish Predator Hunt
it just means we may have to travel a ways from camp. the camp is in a central location to thousands of square miles of hunting. some will be easy access others not so easy.
