Default Gleaners?

I was considering putting in for a spring bear tag this year but didn't because I did not need the meat. I was wondering if anyone here has ever suggested or researched being able to hunt and donate the meat to a gleaner program. I would think it would fit well with the general personality of all ifishers and hunters to be able to do what they love and be charitable.

Evan,
I think it is a great notion,
If a guy is sucessful in a hunt that brings a surplus, why not donate it to a program that can utilize it?

Now,

The quandry is, how do we get it from the hillside to the table of the homeless man/woman or orphanage, old folks home etc or local school lunch program to ease the burden on the taxpayer best?

I know that some hunters in the Bible belt have a program where they can donate white tails to put on the table.

Maybe be a good thing here too. If a guy only has room for 1/2 of what he's got, Let him donate the surplus in a safe and sanitary way so that others can eat and call it a tax write off.... just like donating clothes and stuff at good will.

I think there is a representative in Portland for " Hunter for the hungry" I think it would be a great program to start in oregon. It could really benefit people who are less fortunate than us. I always have some extra meat to give away each year. I will try to find the organization again on the net.
