Default Clackawoes

I spent Sunday on the Clack from Feldheimer to Carver with no love. 3 guys fishing HARD and leaving no water unturned. I threw everything in my boxes at them with not so much as a strike, which leads me to my question.

What is the best bug you have fished with success on the Clack?

I need to get back behind the vise as my box is depleted so suggestions on productive bugs would be appreciated.

Go stealthy and slow. Fish are in, thick. not hitting much, try low clear water tactics. I saw one on a fly at first minute of fishin recently. They maybe leader shy, lighten up also. small dark natural colors.

I checked my records and I have caught steelhead on the Clackamas with water levels as low as 12.19 feet at Estacada (it is running 12.69 feet now) with a #4 Purple ESL.

Ironically enough Andy that is EXACTLY the bug I was using the most. I even rolled out the pick yur pocket, the trailer trash, a paris hilton, and many other proven Clack flies. Maybe I need you to bless my rod with some good juju?

I was just going to start a new post and ask the same question. I might do a birthday trip on sunday and I was wondering what you guys are using this time of year. Clear water usualy means darker, but I tried that on the Tucca yeaterday with no takers. Back in my gear days I used to catch them on pink corkys (I know blasphemy) but I am addicted to swinging these days.

Any info is appreciated

If you go hit the mouth of Deep Creek and Eagle Creek. Other than that you can see most all the water you want to do.

I like a black a-leach or string leach any time anywhere. No pictures, sorry. A little blue ice something or other doesn't hurt. My . Make sure you aren't going too deep and try to keep it slow on the swing.

Hope that makes sense.

As a fly shop friend of mine once told me... 'a long time ago in a place far far away', "Your storing Karma for another trip". Check Rob Crandalls article on multi style fishing in STS (sorry don't remmeber the issue) last fall.
