Does any one know of a good 15# test for Steelhead/Salmon something thin for jigging.

Fishbane,
I like the 16lb Streen Ultra thin clear line for the application you are wanting. It runs like a 10-12lb line but the strength of 16lb in case you get a bigger fish.

Don't know if you are into braided lines or not, but I use the fireline and it works great. Don't know if the floating part would be a hinderance or not for the jigging part.

15 lb strength at 8 lb diameter, if I remember correctly.

I've done the jigging thing a couple times with no success. Maybe, I can hook with some pros this winter to show me the ropes. So I'm no expert but, Maxima ultragreen is tops on my list for quality monos that retain their strength. It's more pliable the chameleon and doesn't kink as bad. Have yet to try the micro-braids or flourocarbon lines.

Fishbane,
Are you vertical jigging or bobber and jig?? Ah heck doesn't matter...any of the braided lines...I like and use Power Pro. Hi Vis yellow would be great! If you are bobber fishing then the floating is great because of easy mending and there is nothing better for vertical jigging.

20lb Power Pro has the mono diameter equivalent of 6lb mono...or you could go 10lb Power Pro that has the diameter equiv of 2lb mono.

Top that off with the tie master knot tool and you have a combination that is tough to beat.

I have always been a fan of maxima line but wednesday I tied on some fireline and jig fished the wilson, It was a dream to mend compared to mono. One thing I did learn is to tie that stuff on to your spool very well. I tied mine on like I normaly do and the line would spin on the spool, it's very slick. Of course I didn't discover this till I was on the river. So I had to tear it all off, and run to tillamook sporting goods for more.
If you have to buy your fireline from tillamook sporting goods.....take some KY....nuff said.

i just upgraded my bobber rod to a cheap im6 eagle claw 60# 8 1/2 rod (you may laugh but it was better than the giant fiberglass 30# rod i used to use). i'm thinking of going with 30# fireline on the reel, ambassadeur 5500-c3.

1. how much can i expect to spend to fill the reel? i was pricing spools of it at bimart and it's $13 for 125 yards. given that it's thinner than mono, i'm looking to drop some bucks to have this thing spooled up. do you go with a mono backing and only spool up the last 125 yards with fireline?

2. what color? it doesn't go clear in water like mono can. which is worse, the hi-vis green or the dark brownish color?

3. do you go fireline all the way to the end or do you use a mono leader for the terminal stuff?

i'm so confused. this high tech stuff boggles the mind.
