If KC-135s Can....
refuel jets in mid-air, why don't we have floating fuel depots at the 125 line? My random fantasy for the day.

We do it's called gas cans or fuel bladder. And yes they are on the boat when it floats.

There are ways around that and to prevent it.

THIS....from the guy who wants his $.23 back. Those you think petrol is muy expsenive in Garibaldi, try it at the 125/45. What do you think delivered fuel prices are from KC-135's staged out of Turkey? If I had to guess, I guess it's probably $20 a gallon. Kerry, I'll haul fuel for you here's my DSC #...call me when your close. Wait. Make that the 126°/45. The best customers are the ones who CAN'T get back without my product. Free coffee at the 126°.

Re: If KC-135s Can....
So the question of the day is... Can you fuel your own in international waters? Must we pay Scooter the Pump Jockey to man the barge, so to speak? This would be a cool idea if you could get past all the EPA nonsense, I bet!

We've talked about this before. Just buy a navy surplus LST and anchor it offshore. The stern floods so you can drive boats right in. Carkington station. A list of amenities might include.
Casino
Restaurant
Espresso
Tackle and rigging shop
Boatel
Fuel
Ice
Fish processing
Fish storage
Boat haulout and repair
Oh yeah the possibilies are endless.

Re: If KC-135s Can....
Although not that realistic for us, someone is doing it down south.
There is an outfit selling membership in a fishing club that is based out of a fuel ship where you can use their boats or fuel up you own. I can't remember how much it costs, but it was pretty expensive.
A lot easier to do in a latin american country without the EPA and the big seas we have.
Sure would be nice on the two day trips where my 369 gallon tank is going to seem pretty small by the end of day two.
I wonder what the markup is on fuel sold at the fuel dock in Ilwaco?
If someone could make a few thousand a day running a fuel boat out of the CR (and the EPA or whoever would allow it) it might not be that crazy of an idea. A fuel/bait boat at the 125 line might actually make a buck or two.
I don't think it would be real hard to sell a few thousand gallons a day, but I have no clue what it would take to be profitable.
One more thing for the wish list.

Re: If KC-135s Can....
To be perfectly honest, most boaters would come out ahead if they didn't have to run with a full tank. If you KNEW that there was fuel at the fishing ground, wouldn't you buy enough (+margin) at the fuel dock to get out there, and then enough to fish, and then enough to go home? I mean Mike, with 369 gallons of fuel, you are burning fuel to carry it. Much more sensible to only carry what you need (+Murphy's share.)

Like in 007's Thunderball. A ship that opens up and drive your boat or sub right in. Top her off please and would you check the oil too?

Copter pad too. For those folks that don't want to make the trip in rough seas, or need to cut that trip short because she finally went into labor.
