Default Okuma Epix 30

I have promoted this reel at Sportsmans Shows and just about everywhere. My reels, now in there 2nd full season are self destructing  The handle break down button is breaking, anybody else have this problem?? I had three fixed yesterday and broke three more today...certainly makes landing fish interesting!

Jim

No other complaints, I use the rear drag and they are working great action is still silky smooth.

my dad tried one last winter, one trip steelheading and then one trip back to the sporting goods store to return it. same thing happened, handel broke. so he bought another shimano. but, from what i've heard the new ones haven't had as many of these problems, so maybe they fixed it. don't know about any of the more recent reels though.

I took the plastic decorator cap off the handle adjustment plate and that cured everything. The problem appears to be that the decorator cap bears on the set screw, causing it to loosen and turn as the handle turns. Threw away the chromey plastic cap --- all is well.

Thumper,
I think we are talking two different problems. The epix has that button to fold the reel handle over for easier storage...it is that button that breaks...are we talking the same thing? I can't picture how removing the chrome cap would do anything...of course I am for the most part mechanically challenged

Thanks,

Jim

Well, Jim, now I dunno. Mine works great, but I have only caught a few fish on it. I guess we'll see.

I have only used mine a few times. But I just love the drag on it.

BTW - It made a trip from Tillamook to Portland in the boat with a clam shovel on top of the reel by some strange coincidence. The result is the shiny finish ended up as dust on the floor of the boat with a reel now that now has a big ugly spot on it. It must now be ready for some heavy duty fish action.
