Now I've been told that this is an advance on next years return/refund. Anybody else know anything about this?

From clarkhoward.com

I've been getting so many questions about the government stimulus package (aka "the rebates"). First off, yes, this is free money you'll be receiving this summer; it's not a pre-payment on next year's refund.
He goes on to add that this is money our kids will pay back.

Read what Clark has to say

I agree with him.

I figure that since my kids are paying for this I will just add it to their college funds.

I agree with Clark's assesment of the situation also. Especially THIS quote.

Quote:
I think this economic stimulus package should be known as The Politician Protection Act of 2008.
However, I won't be wringing my hands and crying because I got some money in the mail. The gub'mint has enough of my $$$ already.

Add this to the list of why I'm glad I don't have kids, I get to buy me another rifle and not feel guilty about my kids having to pay the kicker back.

I guess that'll be everyone elses kid's duty eh'? (tongue in cheek)

I am sure the Ifish guides may see a little uptick in requested days in the time the checks are distributed...spend locally or invest abroad.

Isn't it interesting that the stimulus checks are expected to help the economy, but some in Washington are still arguing to allow the tax cuts to be cancelled. Doesn't it make more sense to renew the tax cuts, leaving the money in the hands of the people who earned it? Remember that the a stimulus check is not money the government is giving us, but OUR money being RETURNED to us.

In this particular case, it is actually money that is being borrowed, to be given to us, to be paid back by future taxes.

You have got to be kidding, if we all go out and spend $600.00 it is going to boost our economy....LOL, what supports our economy the following week? DO THEY REALLY THINK WE ARE THAT STUPID!!! Heck the fishing trip we went on last weekend cost dang near that and this weekends trip will cost more than that. I guess I am doing my part to help the economy and I don't even get a dang kicker check!

Stimulus package. HAAA!!! Everyone i have spoken with is using the $ to pay off credit card bills. Money which was already put into the economy when the cards were used. If they really want to have $ back into the economy lower the Home loan rates to about 5.25%. Save thousands and thoudsand of people $200-$500 a month. Which equates to 2400-6K for a year for every refi.... That savings would make it back into the economy.
Thats my

The way gas is going, I'll need it to fill the tank at the beginning of tuna season.

It's worse than that. It's being borrowed from our kids and given to us.
