Hi all. I'm to take my twin sons on a fishing trip to Vancouver Is. as a H.S. graduation present in mid/late June. Looking at Barkley Sound or Campbell river areas for salmon & halibut. Any info on charters and/or lodges would be appreciated. Trying to watch the $ as there will be 6-7 of us total. Thanks for any help!

Went to Weigh West in Tofino a couple of years ago with a friend and our total of five boys ages 8-12. A very nice trip. Bob manages the place...we booked two days, in August, which I think is a little past their peak season. Bob made sure we had guides that liked kids, and it was a very nice trip. Day one...poor weather, not a lot caught, day two, great weather, tons of fish caught, most released some brought home...including ling, salmon, and halibut. The halibut were not huge...but for us this was great. I let me kids to all the fishing...and it was essentially their first ocean fishing experience. They loved it.

We camped on the way up, and there are many places to do that. I would take some canoes if I had known about two very nice large lakes on the way up there...most locals are so busy at the coast that these lakes are very underutilized and look like great places to canoe camp.

Two days fishing, with lodging...and the restaurant cooks your fish with all the full meal fixings for a minimal amount.
